I had an idea about a device that would translate aspie talk to NT and vic versa I would like to know what people thought of it. Its just a shame it could probably never realy be done with just electronics, uless im very wrong and someone comes up with it in the future. I partly got this from the manslater idea which is in a youtube vid somewhere.

I don't think its feasible because NT-speak is based around lingual abstraction. Much like autistics electronic devices work in terms of absolutes and pre-set definitions.

Yeah that would be cool but that would be a very complicated device besides body language is largely what gets communicated more then words/tone and phrasing so that wouldn't be very feasible.

The closest I you can get to that is to get an NT on your side in social situation and let them do a lot of the ice breaking, talking, while you accompany them in a social situation. Then later, they'll effectively translate what went. But thats difficult in itself for many aspies. I've been lucky in some cases and not so lucky in other cases in my ability to use NTs as translators. Whenever I get to use a NT as a translator and become there accomplice rises the social success rate massively. Sometimes, I've used NTs indirectly. Eg: I met this guy through a class and we started studying together. And I told him that I wanted to accompany him while seeing a prof. So I accompanied him and let him do most of the talking. That equaled a success, I made a good impression that I was a diligent student. Whereas if I went in by myself, it would have been more awkward.

unless the autistic to nt device just randomly picks a subject ie the weather, sports, or just mimics what everyone else in the vicinity says over and over and over - kinda like what the Daily Heil do with cancer related topics....

Interesting... So, kind of, if you'll pardon my flippancy, like a 'guide dog' for autistics, only in this case, it's more of a 'guide human'.

I could really use one of those. I'd like to understand what the women around me are saying.

ummmm the thought haddent occured to me about NTs being more abstract ect. I wonder if it would work in reverse for N Ts or are we aspies posibly too much for electronics too? I kinda wish it was possible though.

Oh, there are plenty of those decoders running around on the 'net! LOL! For example:

1. FINE: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right, and you need to shut up.
2. Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means half an hour. Don't be mad about this, it is just the same 5 minutes you use when it's your turn to help do things around the house.
3. Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine (see #1).
4. Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!
5. Loud Sigh: This is not actually a word but a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing . (Refer back to #3 for the meaning of nothing.)
6. That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. "That's okay" means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
7. Thanks: A woman is thanking you – do not question or faint. Just say you're welcome.
8. Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking "what's wrong" – for the woman's response refer to #3.
9. I'll drive: this either means she is questioning your manhood, or she is (rightly) scared to death of your Richard Petty impersonation
10. Are watching (insert sport here) again? It's chore jar time
11. Sure, you can buy that. Refer to #6
12. Come here: you are a puppy
13. You never listen: you never listen. Prepare for #5
14. Whatever: Is a women's way of saying "%@&* YOU!"

My idear for a device is much moar ebil. I would like to make a device that disrupts the functioning of the NT social brrrainzzz, while the NTs are socially interacting with me.

I have fitted mine to a belt buckle, with a button in my pocket.
A sound cannon or sonic boom disrupts their flow
While they are coming to grips with the disorientation
I mesmerise them with softly spoken
Key words punctuated by subliminal sounds
Emanating from my finely tuned
anus

They are never the same again
