I am trying to figure out if most Aspies drive or not. I am a student driver, most adults in my life say that I should not be allowed to drive a car.

I like driving things, I started at 8 with tractors and a mini bike. at 15 I learned to run a bobcat and my dads bulldozer. I waited till I was 18 to get my licenses though. not sure why but I never really had an interest in cars till then.

The people that ride in the vanpool I'm part of get scared when I drive, they either think I'm going to fast or I'm not handeling the wheel smooth enough, what upsets though is that I don't see anything wrong and on windy days they act like if they can do better, they don't say it, but they like to crack jokes. I'm a pretty safe diver, but handeling a huge van gets irriatating if I'm trying to drive and others have a commentary for an hour on my driving  In my own car I have no problems at all and passengers I've had don't have issues with me, on my own I at times like to drive spiritidly, but thats just because I like driving and cars alot.

Driving is my life. Take away my license and you pretty much take away my reason to exist. I actually drive for a living delivering pizza, and do auto mechanics as a sideline and hobby. In a way, my cars are my window on the world. They let me go where I want without having to actually get out and interact with the environment if I don't want to.

I drive an automatic but didn't drive for 12 years after passing my test. I just wasn't ready at the time but actually enjoy it now. Back when I took my test the sensory input and having to coordinate so many different actions and sensations was overwhelming and extremely exhausting.

Eeyup. Only automatic, though. Been doing so since 2006; that's six years now.

I drive, but I didn't drive until I was about 19, and for the longest time before that I was absolutely terrified to get behind the wheel of a car because I didn't trust myself not to run someone over or cause a bunch of accidents. I've since gotten over that fear, especially after seeing how badly other people drive... Weaving in and out of traffic with no turn signal and next to no room for clearance, but they do it anyway.

I drive stick and I prefer to drive stick. Automatic is simply too boring. I'll drive an automatic, but I won't own one again, at least not if I can help it.

Thanks for asking people this question. I was actually wondering about it, too.

I don't drive a car. I do have a license, but haven't driven for more than 10 years. I don't think I ever will again. I will only keep renewing my license just for the sake of having a useful ID.

The reason why I don't drive is because I feel I might cause an accident. I find it difficult to make quick judgments on the road, particularly whether to turn right at an intersection or wait for the oncoming car to go first. These things stress me out. I am an educated and intelligent person, but when it comes to certain things, I am a wimp. It makes me feel a bit embarrassed perticularly because I am a male. But I don't push myself to do things that I am not comfortable with.

This. While I currently have a few automatics in my vehicle fleet, they will soon be sold off, leaving me only with manual transmissions. I consider an improper number of pedals a deal breaker when shopping for a new car. If it is not available with a manual transmission then there is no point to me owning it. Maybe it's my rather rigid nature, but once I got a taste for driving manuals I forever lost my desire to drive anything else. It's simply better. I also prefer cars without power steering, ABS, air bags, electronic driver aides, and electronic throttles, but that's another discussion...

I've been driving since I was 17. My first vehicle was a manual-transmission, but I prefer automatics. A stick-shift only seems better if it's in a fast sports car. Otherwise, there doesn't seem to be much of a point to it.

There's no reason why people with AS shouldn't drive since driving is very easy after you practice a bit.

I like speed but I don't think I should be allowed to drive.. There are many people who also think the exact same thing. :P

I have multi-tasking issues and high anxiety.. I use the public transport and I like walking...

I'm a male too.. Most girls like guys who drive.. I' ll find a 'green' girl :P

Also,

1. Einstein was a genius and he didn't know how to drive a car
2. I don't know how to drive a car
3. So, I am a genius :P

I'm too young right now, but i don;t know if I should learn later or not. You see, I don;t really want to drive because I'd be too shy about other people doing it, and worried about accidents, but at the same time, I want to prve to my parents that I can.

I don't drive, and since I have multiple, official diagnosis', I don't have to. I qualify for free transportation to medical appointments, and I don't use that often because I have trouble going to those.

When I am driving I am so focussed on the road, I don't get distracted, I can't even have a conversation. Apart from traffic jams I love it.

I can drive. I had a special driving instructor to teach me, and he says I did well. But I don't like to drive, because it is stressful and because you are just sitting in a seat instead of moving around actively. So instead of having a car, I moved closer to school so I could walk or bike to class, and take the bus if I needed to go further than ten miles.
