I use a soft g like the g in budget, but lots of people use a hard g like in gate. I say 'er' just before that g, rather than 'ur'. I suppose really it should be said however the Germans say it, since it's a German name.

I pronounce it As-per-ger's with a hard g.

I wish that people would stop pronouncing it incorrectly. Some people in my family pronounce it "Iss-pee-urgh-jiss". It makes me want to scream.

Yes, that's how people in Germany pronounce it.
:)
By the way, "Assburgers" has made it to television: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt176572.html

Ass - per - Gers. It's how I first heard a psycologyst (or psychiatrist, I get mixed up) pronounce it.

I would guess (not sure if I'm right or not) that people with an American accent are more likely to say ass - burgers, it's certainaly the accent I hear it more.

I pronounce it OSS-burgers....just to minimize the otherwise inevitable snickering.
