Do you wear the orange bracelet?

Hi,

I've read on a webpage on Aspergia that we could have an Aspergian passport and wear an orange bracelet. You don't have to necessarily purchase one either. Just find something in your home that's orange and able to fit around your wrist.
Do you wear the orange bracelet? If you don't, I strongly reccomend that you do. You could meet more aspies that way, if they recognize the meaning of the orange bracelet.
It's completely optional though, I'm not forcing anyone to wear it...

btw, What do you do if you find a person who's also wearing the orange bracelet? As in what should I say? Asking "Are you an aspie too?" would just be too direct and odd. It'll especially freak out the person if they end up being NT and it's just a huge coincedence.

I was showing a friend of mine the page one time, a friend who knows I have asperger's and for my birthday, lo and behold, one of the small gifts was five of those orange wristbands .

Well, I lost one, broke three, and I've got one left that I'm saving for some special occasion.

I want to order a bunch online, but I can't find any. Has anybody had any luck? I've looked on Froogle and Amazon, though not very deeply.

I wear it on my right ankle, largely because I'm too uncoodinated to get it tied on either of my wrists by myself and I'm too antisocial to get someone else to put it on for me - the cats and rats are of no help in this particular arena . . .

its like some kind of top-secret organisation that's so secret you don't know who most of the members are. you wear the bracelet because you're a member but can't approach anyone you see with the bracelet in case they are not a member and you accidently betray the organisation.

That was my exact thought! With the popularity of those plastic colored bracelets these days (my teenage daughter has a ton of them) who's to know if an orange bracelet means "aspie" or just happens to coordinate with what the person is wearing at the moment?

I do not have one now. It is true that it is not a proof, as some other members wrote. Many people wear colored bracelet. And since the orange bracelet can be any orange bracelet, and since you can wear it around your wrist or ankle (though it would not be very easy to see in winter), you have no way to be sure that the person you meet is an Aspie too.

Anyway, this is a good idea.

I don't wear it because I don't like orange, I don't like unnecessary things around my wrist, and I don't identify as Aspergian.

maybe we could think up a definate way of identifying the orange bracelet- a certain material or something. this might increase the chances of the person you see being an aspie.

I agree with KtMcS. Most colored bracelets that people wear are made of similar material. If you find one which is not as used, you can make it easier to recognize whether the person is an Aspie.

Can you get "official" ones? I think someone needs to design a logo that's not obviously "hey I'm an Aspie", but is easily recognisable by other Aspies that know of this phenomina (ie it's easily recognisable, but no one inform NTs of it).

I would certainly pay the cost of production & postage ... is anyone up for it?

The former is meant for a wrist band that I'm going to print onto photo paper, super glue onto some sort of frame, and laminate.

The latter is meant as a more discreet forum signature, I would go for the former for the same purpose, though I must take into consideration the thoughts of other people on those forums, with smaller screen resolutions, especially without the ability to crop using their browsers rendering engine, due to the limitations of phpBB markup ((x)html & css is hardly ever permitted in signatures, afterall).

So what does everyone think (no compliments for the sake of lying to avoid "hurting my feelings" please. I hate dishonesty with a passion)?


Note: as everyone here should know, the logo has been taken off of Aspergia, who in turn borrowed at least the base of the logo out of cuniform & built on it. I don't claim any credit for the logo.

A nice idea, and I'd consider wearing one sometimes (although I'd be more likely to if they weren't orange )

One problem, though, is that it could possibly be mixed up with the red string worn by those ridiculous Kabbalh people. Apparently gives you protection from the evil eye LoL

I don't really want to be mistaken for one of them, in fact, I couldn't think of anything worse.

Putting the aspergia logo on the wristbands was something along the lines of what I was thinking. I must say TenebraruM, I like it.

And I'm being sincere when I saw that.

What if we made some kind of a little plaque with the Wrongplanet alien's face on it and put if on a band? You know, like those leather Italian Charm bracelets.

I mean, there's already wrongplanet merchandise, and the alien is really cute. Could that work?
