he doesnt appear to be looking the camera in its eye though. It is a weird pic. His glasses are too low and he looks creepy in it. Im not saying alex looks creepy, just not a fan of this pciture.

Shameless self promotion is hardly narcissism. Sometimes business needs to be taken care of.

I think he looks good. I like the ad. Good to be reminded that we are communicating with one another on WP thanks to this young man.

The Alex ad is far more pleasant than those dating sites ads, wrinkle-removing tricks ads or weight loss ads, which have rather unpleasant pictures in them.

Regarding him looking directly at us in this photo, I wonder if he is consciously doing what many of us here tend to avoid doing - looking people in the eye.

The ad doesn't seem to be working for me. I turned off Adblock and I just get big gray box. I'll just take your guys' word for it and assume he's pulling a Jimmy Wales.

It's better than seeing all those pictures of wrinkly skin or flabby tummies or whatever. Those always put me off my food. With a picture of Alex Plank's face on the ads, I can eat whilst surfing WP much better.

I'm not so certain as to why people are so upset/bothered/offended by the developer making ads on his site. His ads are much better than the annoying "animated" ones that interrupt my typing (doesn't allow the characters I typed to display).

You enjoy using - for FREE - a forum that he started and maintains, but you're complaining that he's trying to make a living while he's at it? It just seems a little hypocritical to me for you to complain. If you don't like the ads, ignore them.

Oprah does it. She is on the cover of every single one of her OWN magazine editions.
I would never buy one of her magazines, but that's beside the point.
She is self made like Alex and one of the wealthiest women in the world. She is also a huge philanthropist.

Maybe Alex will be as rich as Oprah someday, who knows. Then he can buy us all a car. Right Alex?
