Well, those old pop-up things that used to appear on AOL back around '03 pretending to be sex adverts were so much more annoying. Alex's face? Not so much...
I just wish my Spam filter still worked on AOL, because that is my e-mail box & I am tired of deleting/flagging all that junk.
The only problem I have ever had here on WrongPlanet are those weird spatial word pics that act as security filters. I hate these, as I have spatial issues even at age 50! And they are so prevelent on the Web these days. Hate. Hate. Hate.

Sincerely,
Matthew

Sorry, Alex.

I agree.

I agree, threads making fun of how other people look are terrible.
But, in my opinion, I don't think this thread was started to make fun of how Alex looks.
Obviously there is nothing wrong with the way Alex looks.
I think the OP was referring instead to how Alex seems to look at us from those ads
in a Big Brother's Watching kind of way. His gaze is certainly intense in that picture.
Seeing it above you while reading or posting, and then below you as well at the
same time - can be a little disconcerting to some folks.

I have no problem with folks pimping themselves to make a buck. Bills gotta get paid.

I think the photo is brilliant. Just screams Aspie. Don't know if the choice was deliberate or not.

On reflection, Alex looks a little like Elvis Costello in that pic! ( No offense intended!)

This is a fun thread.

All other things being equal, it is not a bad picture at all. But in the context of this website...I dunno, if the goal here is to reassure ourselves that we aren't a bunch of detached maniacs, perhaps we should circulate a different image of our leader...maybe something with a smile or thumbs-up?

I feel wary of criticising Alex as he might ban me from his site if I did.

It would be like criticising Big Brother.

A little something from Alex's doppleganger,

HAWT!

Who knew I would miss the late 70s-early 80s?

Did many a vodka shot in the high school parking lot while listening to this. 10 years before, my high school had a
smoking lounge. We have morphed into a police state now.

Anyhoo....enjoy!

He seems to be using Google Ads / Doubleclick to serve these ads, are these replacing paid ads? I started using adblock when the ads (or the voice in my head started talking to me!)

Quote:
It's better than seeing all those pictures of wrinkly skin or flabby tummies or whatever

When disabling adblock I got these (as well as adverts for my university).

I would rather have Alex's face raising awareness of everything Aspie, than the cloying clip art that is on the banner ads, for Autism groups that shill for cure money. You've seen the ads a zillion time. Blonde hair, blue eyed little boy, around 4 years old. Oh, there might be a token Asian or black kid in the mix, or a girl.

"Help Cure Autism!", which is code for mom and dad is tired of tossing money to the ABA therapist (or whatever else is in vogue at the moment) and getting dubious results.

Does Alex look like he needs a "cure"? I think not.

I'd like to ban those stupid puzzle ribbons too.

Rock on Alex. Time to put an adult spin/face to the Autism spectrum.

Their glasses are almost identical.

I kinda agree with some posts so far though, the ads give off just a whiff of self love. I don't think the Oprah thing is any comparison because Oprah is OPRAH. Her franchise is brought to life by her name, her face, her show, her life etc, and all those things are entwined into her trademark. Alex isn't WP, WP and Alex are separate entities.

If it wasn't for Alex Plank you wouldn't be here finding things to criticizing him about. But, what do we expect when we Aspies don't have any empathy and find every little thing to pick at and debate over on here. Have some of you been on You Tube lately because Wrong Planet hasn't escape the wrath of some You Tubers talking about some of the very bad things that go on here.

:(

And if it wasn't for the membership here WP would simply be a site and not a community. Alex may have created the site and the forums and a name for himself, but it's the members who joined that made it the community it is.

Sorry, there's only so many things Alex has a right to take credit for.

I love the photo and ads! I think you're a big spunk Alex. That is all. Thank you
