Oh, sorry to hear that Dirtdigger. I hope this is a good doctor for you.

So, can I ask you: some people feel sick for a few days after the shot? I read that it should be a day or two, and when it went over this time a couple days more I really worried.

Thank you.
I never felt ill after a flu shot, but my dad used to feel like he had a mild flu for two or three days afterward. I think it just affects different people differently. I've always been a fast healer, with cuts and so forth, so maybe I have a good immune system or something. But a bad flu bug can hit me hard, and I'm prone to bronchitis in particular, so I've always thought the flu shots were a good idea. At least since I got over my childhood terror of them.

Thank you Blue Abyss - this is reassuring and I appreciate your reply. I am going tomorrow :) I really don't want to get sick and it is an early and bad flu season here, apparently. What is the saying: I just have to put on my "big girl" panties and be brave! Me and anxiety ... sigh.

Yup, avoiding the public is a good way to avoid the flu - I've been doing that most of my holidays ... Wednesday, I am forced back into the stream of sickies, though. Yes, the flu shot is no guarantee.

My daughter is terrifed of them and when she was younger she would get violent with the poor nurse. Now she's a little calmer but its still a terrible ordeal for her

I hope this makes sense, but it is actually kind of reassuring to know that you can be deathly afraid and be just fine. I'm sorry your daughter is afraid and I am glad that it is better, but the anxiety can be far worse than the shot and I am reassured that I can be afraid and be okay.

1. How do you know you got the flu, and not a head cold?
2. The flu shot is often variable in it's success. Sometimes you'll get vaccinated against one strain, and get another strain.
3. If you genuinely got the flu, but got it within two weeks of the shot, you simply got the vaccine too late--you already had the flu when you got the shot.

I hate needles I would rather shoot myself with a nailgun again. I don't pass out or anything I just hate the feeling of it. I can look at them just fine. I also have to use them because my son has diabettes.

Is getting FluMist an option for you?

I got the Flu shot, I tend to get Pneumonia really bad. when I get the Flu I did get the Flu shot in 7th grade, but still got the Flu with Pneumonia and was sick for about 2+ months. I guess I got the other strain of flu that year. I was even out of school longer then my teacher who was pregnant at the time.

Maybe I should try that. I have heard it can make you sick.
