I didn't think "My Life" was uplifting - more defiant - let me be the individual I am - it is the "feel." I think a lot of what I have chosen speaks to being different and speaks to resenting the pressure to conform to society - to me, that is my experience of AS - there is an "other worldly" ring; feeling trapped and suffocated by societal expectations; a desire to "be myself, unrestrained"; I use songs as catharsis and I am quite serious about them. Purple Rain actually excites my synesthesia - there is something unspoken and I guess I don't take the lyrics as they were/might have been intended, the relationship-y part means nothing - I perseverate on "Purple Rain" - I taste those words intensely and is it that picture, that taste, that feel, that resonates. Purple has meaning to me - purple rain is crack. A lot of songs - I relate to some part, or some experience within them. I guess the significance and experience is personal.

Learning to fly-Pink Floyd

Linkin Park's Hybrid Theroy, most of the songs from the album, most people call it downer music however its all in how you interprit it as it can be very uplifting and motivating for me. I started listining to this before I knew what was wrong at a very bad time for me. Runaway being one of the best, I rarely listen to heavy music however I always like that album and band, I still wonder if it was written with autism in mind becouse of the very meny direct references to issues autistics tend to face and written from a perspective an aspie might view the world from.

I'm sure I can come up with more to add later.

Ha ha, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, that's what I think of when I hear that. Nostalgic days of high school...well, the high school period, anyway, not saying that I enjoyed high school itself.

I also like "Wonder" by Natalie Merchant and "No Rain" by Blind Melon. I think I liked the second version of "Titanium" better than the first. The 1st one took a more literal approach to the song, but the second one took a more metaphorical approach, which I prefer. (English and literature were always my favorite subjects!)
Here are some other songs I can relate to:
"I'm Your Angel" by Celine Dion feat. R. Kelly -- Helped me cope with losing my grandmother 4 years ago, and a good friend of the family's earlier last year.
"Love Can Move Mountains," "That's the Way it Is" -- Celine Dion -- These are songs that help me to believe in myself and restore my faith.
"Don't Stop Believing" by Journey -- I think this one speaks for itself!
"Daydream Believer" by The Monkees -- It's a classic! Plus, my sister and I used to watch old reruns of "The Monkees" on Nickelodeon. It also reminds me to never stop believing.

Definitely some Doors here, I see some people have already picked some of mine, but here goes..

"People are Strange" "Riders on the Storm" "LA Woman (Heck that ENTIRE ALBUM not just the title song", "Soul Kitchen" All from the Doors... (Jim Morrison really spoke to me during my college years.)

"Melancholy Man" by the Moody Blues.

" I am a Rock, I am an Island" by Simon & Garfunkel.

"Ramble On" Led Zepplein

" Don't You (Forget about me)" Simple Minds

"(Don't Fear) The Reaper" Blue Oyster Cult

"Expecting to Fly" Pink Floyd

Those seem like a good selection, for now..

Sincerely,
Matthew

I'm partial to Muse and Owl City (I think the composer may be an undiagnosed HFA)
Fireflies, Deer in the Headlights, Shooting Star, Paper Tigers, and The Yacht Club particularly spoke to me

And of course, the Firefly theme always reaches the aspie in me because they were a group of misfits making their own way.
