I was wondering if anybody else does what I do. I take certain characters from one show and bend them to fit my own storyline that I make up. I believe it is a special interest of mine because I do it all the time and have several storylines from several shows, most of which are cartoons. It is kinda like my own little world, and I'm in it almost all the time.

Also, I would like to know what other special interests other Aspies have, especially girls. :)

Yes, that's a massive internet hobby, actually. Fanfiction!

Yes ... I do this very often. Sometimes during the day but mostly at night time. Before I go to sleep I spend a long time imagining scenarios featuring my special interest characters. Like you, they're mostly from cartoons. One cartoon in particular. It's almost as if when I get in bed I naturally fall into that world because it feels comfortable and there are no distractions to pull me out of it.

I do that with video game characters and video game settings. My special interests being video games, entomology (insects), and Christianity.

I did that when I was growing up, but not really as an adult. I'm more focused on creating my own characters these days.

I don't do that but when I was a kid I had a very complex and all consuming fantasy world where I spent most of my time. I am still creative and enjoy inventing characters and situations but I mostly do it through writing now. My main special interests are writing and animals. Animals are more than just a special interest to me, they are my lifelong passion, they are the beings that I feel most connected to and mutual understanding with. I explain the way I feel to people like this:

Imagine you arrive at a party alone. It's crowded, none of the people look familiar, everyone seems happily engaged with one another. You gaze around feeling awkward, self conscious, and wondering why you came, and then through the crowd you see a friend smiling and waving you over. You feel relief and a sense of belonging, the fears melt away. My whole life is this party and that's how I feel when I see animals.

It sounds like we could be twins! :) I have always incorporated fictional characters into my imagination and tweaked them to suit the stories/world that I make up for them. I think about the characters constantly, so I tend to become very emotionally attached to them and I like to think of them as imaginary friends.

The only problem I've run into with my love for fictional characters is that I eventually get bored with them and have to find new characters to obsess over. When I was younger, the transition between different sets of characters was rather smooth, but it's a lot harder now that I'm an adult. As of this writing I've gone at least a year (possibly 2) without a character obsession, and it's been driving me crazy!

Well, what characters have you obsessed over before? And I completely agree. I, however, often find new characters to obsess over before the old interest dies out and there's always my failsafe characters that I could never get completely bored with. :)

I've obsessed over tons of characters. It would take me forever to list them all, but the last ones I obsessed over were my Tim Burton set (The Mad Hatter, Alice, Sweeney Todd, Mrs. Lovett, Edward Scissorhands, and Willy Wonka) and my My Little Pony set (all of the "Main 6" characters, but especially Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie).
