I'm just curious to see if the results are similar to the figures I'm reading in articles off-site. My apologies if this has been done before.

I am employed and have been for 17 years but it was a slow, painful process getting to that point. I generally couldn't hold a minimum wage job for a few weeks at a time.

Which part? I did jump around a bit in that post.

1. I was surprised we had so many WPers click "full-time" in the roughly 7 hours the thread has been on WP. First of all become many of our posters are un/underemployed, and second because most of those 7 hours were traditional working hours in the United States, which is the largest pool of WP posters.

2. I did'nt want anyone saying I was accusing our "full-time" posters of slacking at work.

3. I have always been curious as to why so many WPers are willing to answer a poll, but may not want to post in a given thread. I would guess that the reasons to not post in a given thread depend on time, interest in a topic, etc. etc.

I'm not sure if I explained myself properly.

For those of us who are employed, especially full time, we may have time to check the forum and lick on a poll, but we're likely not to have time to make a post. People who are unemployed or underemployed have more time to post.

Incidentally I'm currently full time employed as a software engineer. Probably more than half of all software engineers are at least borderline aspie, including nearly all of the good ones.

I am unemployed with a small pension. I pray I never ever have to mess up my brain and heart going to a regular job again.

Used to work full time before however left that job as it became simply too stressful. I have tried to apply jobs but had always been unsuccessful but at the moment i do voluntary work.

I don't mind working as long as it's not a job that involves constantly being surrounded by people.
Also i tend to work for maybe up to 6 mths max then quit since too overwhelming.
I've not worked in years my family and gf don't want me to.
Although i would love a job where i can alphabetize things.

I work at a dog daycare so I basically get to hang out with dogs all day and not have to deal with people :D
It's hard in terms of noise levels though- the kennel is right near a busy road and an airport and on the weekdays the incredibly loud air force planes are doing drills or something, and the dogs bark when they're inside the kennel, so I don't always hear the PA when a dog is called and that's embarrassing and the noise also stresses me out very much. When a supervisor asks me to do something I usually end up saying "What?" two or three times, which is not fun to do. But when I'm outside and there are no planes going by, it's probably the best part time job I could have gotten.

I might get a 10 hour/week internship at my local humane society this summer! That should be more quiet but I'll have to socialize more. In fact, they're specifically looking for someone who is "friendly and outgoing" which I'm not, but I can do every other requirement they have and I have a lot of experience with caring for and training animals, so I hope that helps me.

I actually don't want a regular job after I graduate college- that sounds super boring. I don't see why I should get a job just because it's a job. I think people should follow their passions rather than do what pays the most. I don't want to work in an office because that would kill my soul. But that's what my parents keep telling me to do. They keep taking my interests and twisting them into horrible things. I want to be a rock star and/or work with animals. Unfortunately, I really want to be a dog trainer. But that requires excellent people skills because you basically have to train the owners more than the dog. You have to figure out everything the owner did to screw up the dog (unless it's a rescue, then it could have been abused/neglected/undersocialized/untrained/etc before the owners got it) and then tell them that in a way that doesn't offend them. You have to train them to be consistent and properly manage and train their dog, but the humans don't always listen. Dogs are sooooo much easier to work with than humans. xD

I'm not saying people are slacking, I am curious as to why more people don't post.

Time zone-centric thinking.

I think having an option for voluntary work would be good.

I don't work at the moment, I never quit my last job, my contract ended but I was relived as most of the work I have ever tried has left me with a great deal of anxiety. I have been out of work now for nearly 18 months, this is the longest period ever for me. Now I am over 25 and a graduate there are no more government schemes I can be part of any more.

The best job I ever had was working as a web designer but as I was in a large studio I was unable to concentrate with all the movement and noise going on behind me, I had never heard of AS at this point. I still want this kind of work just not in that environment.
Tried freelancing but to no avail.

I voted that I'm a housewife, because I am now but I have worked full time in the past, for quite a few years. I've also worked part time at several jobs and I've gone to college (twice).

I'd love to go back to work but there isn't anything in this town, and I don't have transportation to Tuscaloosa or Birmingham to work. No public transportation and nobody here I know to ride with either. So, at the moment I'm stuck being a housewife, but I do enjoy it. Most of the time.

I wish. I tell people I'm a professional student which in the last few years has been true about to do a pathology course soon just to relive boredom so people don't think Iam a total bludger. Otherwise the other thing I am doing is helping out the careers counsellor at the TAFE where I study with filing so she can focus on her actual job. I've saved her a number of hours doing this and knowing my situation wishes she could hire me for a actual job. My efficiency and focus to detail are appreciated.

I'm just another graduate school casualty. I didn't even make it to ABD status. I did teach part time at the university level for a few years while still a PhD student, which isn't impressive as it sounds I'm afraid, but I took a lot of pride in my work. I was good at it, I was able to do it well. I would have finished and possibly gotten an academic job (maybe), but instead I chose to marry a foreign woman and leave the country. Right now I'm a stay at home dad taking care of my infant son, and I'm scared to death that I'll never be able to get something resembling a halfway decent job that would improve the life of my family.

Other than halfheartedly pecking away at my dissertation between baby-raising tasks (which are more frequent and involving than the childless realize, and aside from basic maintenance I just can't ignore the little monkey for too long!), I've been unemployed since 2011. Part-time instructing was the only job I ever really had. Well, it paid the rent and kept me fed, and that was about it.

ETA: God, I hope that's not TMI. :(

I work full time in retail. I absolutely hate it. The bright lights and the noise...it sucks. Not to mention, I work mostly on the main register so I'm right in the thick of people. I'm often told I need to be more polite to customers. Warmer,
More friendly. (I'm never outright rude but sometimes, I say things that are taken as sarcasm or rudeness, when I never meant it that way.) I'm also told to smile more...I don't understand that. I'm perfectly fine and don't need a big cheesy grin plastered all over my mouth. but...tough times call for it. I have bills to pay, school to save up for, therefore, I need work.
