A deep question: why so many people here have cat avatars?

Nom nom nom.

I've been tempted to change my avatar before... from a tiger to a housecat, but this is one of my favorite pictures, so I use it as my avatar here.

How many is "so many"?

You can't see it, but in Fnord's avitar, I suspect that the left hand is petting a cat.

But you are right as well, as people can neglect their cats and cannot read the signs they are giving.
Though these signs are much more clear than human signs.

I agree. It's strange to me, as I've seen people argue that cats are completely incapable of communication. Yet, I have had cats communicate many things to me. They just do not communicate in human language.

Their signs are quite obvious to me, especially compared to humans.

I'm allergic to cats so I am not very fond of the "all cats have Asperger's" idea. Someone did give me the book and I flipped through it in front of them to make them happy but since then it has been sitting on my bookshelf unread.
Besides, most of the cats I've known have liked always going up to random people and rubbing against their legs but I do not like physical contact at all.

I do not like being compared to a cat.

You need to send a request to American Standard Avatar Institute describing the kind of avatar you'd like. If some avatar that fits your description becomes free on internet, then they send you back a permission that allows you to use it.

Never use an avatar you're not allowed to. Avatar identity theft can be prosecuted and is highly punished

The ASAI is to avatars what the RIAA is to music. The people need their avatars, no one is profiting off of them. But the ASAI goes nuts cracking down on illegal avatar use.

I just want to clarify that I was forced into a cat relationship with an ex girlfriend. We kept a clean litter box but it was still very disgusting to deal with it. I grew up with dogs, and definitely prefer their company over cats.

We had two black cats: Kingston and Largo.

She kept the cats, I got freedom

I adore cats. I have four cats, three of whom are sisters I've raised since birth. Sadly, the sisters' mother, a stray I took in, passed away of breast cancer in 2011, only five months after we found her. She was the most precious cat I've ever seen. I miss her dearly. I don't use cat avatars only because I like my avatar to stand out, and cat avvies (especially on here) are commonplace. I like my avatars to be pictures of my special interests. On other sites, I tend to change my avatar frequently. I don't change it on here because I like my avatar here to represent my user name. Plus, I've used this avatar for so long that I think it would be jarring to change it.

I absolutely love cats. I have never had a cat yet.

My neighbors used to feed a wild cat. Eventually the cat got pregnant and gave birth to 5 lovely kittens. Super cute! :P The neighbors gave 2 of the kittens to friends. 2 other kittens unfortunately got ran over by traffic and the mother cat got ran over by traffic a year later too. :( The last kitten (or well cat by now) still roams around our house and the neighbors house catching and killing anything he can find. We haven't had a rat/mouse problem in ages :P
