This was one of the reasons I was approved for disability.

Don't just tell me how to do something, you have to show me first, otherwise it's just vague instructions that cannot be followed.
z.B. Hans says to put the cart of parts I ran over there, pointing to some place in the general area. What Hans really means is to move them over to the proper colour-coded space by the Machines in the next process, in this case tapping. I have to be shown where to take them, which will probably annoy Hans, but I won't need to be told again after that. Words make no sense without visually and physically connecting them.

Write it down on a list or don't expect it to be done. I tell my boss to NOT give me anything orally unless he gives me time to write it down while he's telling me what he wants done.

I do the same, otherwise I will maybe remember the first and the last sentence, get sidetracked while carrying out the first instruction, and forget about the one other thing I picked up originally.

I use an electronic calender at work, called "EssentialPIM" of which I got a free test version, and which also has a notebook function. Very useful. Only at times I even forget to look at it...

Listening to directions is tough is nails, but being asked to give them is a bit worse because it always happens out of the blue and I rarely know the street names anywhere, so it's like "yeah, sorry man, I'm not from here, can't help you" when I'm standing right in front of my own house in my own damn neighbourhood and my own neighbour is laughing at me witnessing all of it.

Oh, that cracked me up! I am great at directions. 'Go down this street for three blocks (but I meant 4), turn right at the stoplight (but I point left, and there is no stoplight there, because that is on the next block), and when you reach the whatchumacallit (meaning the hotdog stand)...' and so on.

This is how I lost my last job. I repeatedly asked for a list of my duties and they never gave me one, so I didn't complete everything. They embarrassed me and made me look like a fool and incompetent.

Yes, I have trouble. Odds are I'll get lost halfway through the directions and won't understand what they're talking about anymore. A list can help, but when it comes on how to do something or how to get to a specific place, I find it more helpful to do it myself, or at least see it done.

Ironically, I sometimes have trouble with processes that are listed step-by-step. Either I tend to jump ahead or (once I've learned it) I just don't think of it as being like a list; I think of it as more of a concept and start on whatever action seems the most fitting at the moment.

I also just discovered today that if there's a list posted, you'd better point it out or else I'm probably going to miss it.

Unless I make a list, it goes like this:

- make 90% of X (I'm worried about Y already);
- Start making Y and then realize I lack information about how to finish Y because I was still thinking about X when they were talking about X,Y and Z;
- Walk around searching for someone that knows what the hell was Z, still wondering if I made Y right or not.

:roll:

Yes. I also need to make a list. If I do not, it's like someone is speaking in a foreign language. If I make a list in my format, I can handle directions very well. It also helps if there is a sample that's provided or I can research on my own.

I also have a very very poor working memory but I am bad with taking notes because I always over estimate how much I will actually remember.
