Whenever I go out (by out I mean to place other than my house), I feel very drained and tired when I get back. I took my fiancee to the movies and some other place early this week and today I went to a few stores with my mother. Both days, I come back feeling lousy. The reason I wonder if this is an aspie thing is because some of us are hyper sensitive to sensory experiences and maybe my brain gets overloaded when I go out. Does anyone have any experience with this or a reason why this happens?

I suspect we all do, I know I certainly do. Sometimes I just get home collapse on the settee and fall asleep :(

Definitely. Sometimes it can happen if I stay in too, or even as soon as I wake up after an ordinary night's sleep. For going outside though, it's almost a rule.

Yes I get very drained when I go out. Shopping is very bad for me. But when I was younger and I went to bars and clubs I couldn't understand why my brain would stop working halfway through the night and I would have to go home. I use to get a taxi and feel relief knowing I didn't have to see any more people that night.

I always need to have a nap or unwind somehow after spending an extended amount of time socializing. If I can't have that, I get exhausted and can have an anxiety attack.

By the way, ShadeWraith, I love your avatar...Chowder was one of my favorite cartoons back in the day! :D

Yes, I get this all the time. Even though I don't get emotionally anxious or anything from going out and being around people, large crowds and places with a lot of activity can quickly overstimulate me, and I'll start to get really "zoned out" after a short time. I can basically handle going to a shopping mall for about an hour, for instance, before I'll end up being so zoned out that it takes great effort to pay attention to anything or even really keep track of what I'm doing anymore.

Yes indeed. Going out, and especially if I need socialize, is a stressful thing for me. I guess I should have been a hermit living in a cave my whole life.

Absolutely! I need at least a half hour of downtime after coming home from being pretty much anywhere... Even when I'm home and people come over, I need occasional breaks...

Gosh, yes! I feel like I've been wrung absolutely dry each day after work. Especially now that everyone goes on vacation, there is a lot of extra work and unfortunately I am the one always landing the 'temp'-positions. (Not my fault I'm their most versitile and qualified and underrated employee *pats self on back* )
I need a minimum of 9 hour of sleep each night, but the more I do, the more I need to sleep. Some weekends all I do is sleep, eat, sleep again, eat some more...
Even going to the grocery store can be overwhelming.

Yes, I think most Aspies get this. Even if I've just been out and doing something fun and enjoyable, I'm still feel drained. Although then, it feels more like the "good" kind of tired.

No, not always. I have hypersomnia so I feel tired no matter what I do but in terms of "drained" (and I'm using it to mean mentally drained), there are three main scenarios for me:

Going somewhere where there are other people: Yes, I'll feel drained.
Going somewhere where there are no other people (e.g. bushwalking): No, I won't feel drained.
Going somewhere with like-minded people doing aspie-friendly activities: I will probably feel energised, not drained.

Massivly.

I'm gonna end up living most of my life, in my tiny apartment, its kinda like a prison.

I dont just get tired by going outside, i get insane headaches, losing ability to focus., i mean like ive been out drinking all night.

And i literally have to go to bed. Its that bad.

Im not sure what it is that i lack, but im not sure how normal people handle, all the random noise, the inputs, the colors, all stuff that happens. the flood of information. The flood of people everywhere My brain certainly cant handle it.

Ive tried for my entire life, to get out as much as possible, yet it only gets worse as i age, because i dont have the mental energies anymore.

Also from what i understand normal people can like focus on specific voices. if im in a place like a shopping mall, and there is 30 people around that is talking, i hear 30 people talking at once. its a freaking nightmare, like someone is torturing someone. Im not sure how some people can block that out and hear just 1 person talking to you.
