I also think that for *some* people,
*some* portion of the problem with letting go of items
is the topic of this WP thread:

I don't hoard, I throw everything away. My daughter hoards so I just don't go in her room.

Hi,

I am an aspie/hoarder/compulsive collector.

My house and my finances are both at crisis point (again!)

Believe me, in my case it has nothing to do with any traumatic "trigger" event - it's to do with pursuing my special interests/obsessions with having "complete sets" of as many things as possible/total lack of executive function/love of "the hunt" for stuff......

I get all the stuff into the house and then there is no room to sort anything so it just builds up and up.

Hoarding can be a disorder and some can't help it. I believe I am a hoarder myself. Not to an intense extreme, but I am shall we say a mild hoarder, and could get to some bizarre extremes if I don't receive some help now.

I have got a new TV for my bedroom, but don't want to throw the old one away. The old one is 10 years old, has a video built in, and both the screen and the video work brilliantly, good picture, good sound quality, everything. But the trouble is, it's too small for one thing (12 inch, I think), and nothing is compatible with it now, it is only useful to watch videos on, that's it. Nobody I know wants it and it's not worth selling. Not only that, I have gotten rather attached to it and worried about giving it away to someone I don't know in case they might just keep it temporarily and then throw it on the dump. The dump! That is my biggest fear, and I fear to imagine any of my possessions on the dump.

So the TV is upstairs safe in a cupboard.

I do understand-no one (person) has been in my life as long as the *things* that are in my life, so is it any wonder I've grown quite attached to the things ?
It's a relationship, even if one-sided, and I lack for relationships (two-sided) with people, so that doesn't help me feel any less attached to my reliable things.

There's only one thing that I've kept over the years. My special pillow. :D

YES! my things will never betray me or leave me. they will stick with me no matter what, no matter that I am not socially acceptable anywhere else. they are my friends. :) 8)

I still have my baby blue baby blankie :) - I kept it until about the age of 7 when my parents took it away from me- I believe that helped to warp me. I didn't get it back until my parents were gone, in my 40s.
