Over the years, I've discovered wonderful products that have helped me manage my smell hypersensitivity. I'm talking totally minor purchases that significantly improved my quality of life. Do you have similar amazing products in your lives? Either specifically for coping with smells or for any other sensory issues? If so, please share!

1. Vicks VapoRub. Commonly used by police officers and medical examiners to deal with smells like decomposition and formaldehyde, I always use it for potentially smelly chores like cleaning and taking out the trash. I keep Vicks in my purse and in my car as well -- it's so useful for surviving in a world of weird perfumes, unexpected food smells, antique shops, etc.

2. Scrub Daddy sponges. I used to go through sponges so rapidly it was ridiculous. I'd smell old water and/or food on them and have to throw them away -- it was wasteful, expensive, and a nuisance. But these Scrub Daddy sponges don't hold smells!! They last for months at a time, and if you throw them in the dishwasher, they come out looking and smelling brand new. They're safe on non-stick pans. And they're super effective -- I've recommended them to NT friends who now love the Scrub Daddy too based solely on how well it cleans.

My kitchen is significantly happier since this simple discovery. I no longer have to dread using gross old smelly sponges, so I clean more often, which means the boyfriend and I I cook more often, save money more often, and smile more often too. It's seriously just a simple sponge, but it's so freakin good it's been an absolute game changer.

Smell sensory folks, I wholeheartedly recommend giving this a try. (PS, I'm in no way affiliated with these products. I'm just in love with them.) Do you guys have any similar recommendations to share?

This is a great topic!
does anybody know of a mini fan that makes some noise, but not a lot? I need to be able to hear people who speak to me, but not the woman who sits a few feet away.

I'm the same as you-- Vick's VapoRub. I carry a little container of it with me wherever I go (and try to also carry a handkerchief I can hide behind if the offending smell is especially pungent).

A friend who hates the smell of menthol carries fresh lemon peels in a handkerchief. I love that idea, but I'm afraid if I did that they'd rot on me and contribute to the problem rather than the solution ... :?

Mack's Soft Foam Earplugs. These are usually available at any drug store/pharmacy. Sometimes not under the exact brand, but the knockoff versions are the same. It's the ones that specifically say "soft foam". They are the most comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The orange bell shaped ones are the most effective but not as comfortable.

My pink Gumy earbuds help me filter out distracting/annoying noises....I've been known to wear them when I'm just sitting at my laptop reading stuff on the screen, but not listening to any music/videos. :D And to think I used to not want earbuds bcuz of all the horror stories I'd heard about how they damage your hearing!

This is brilliant. I'm going to give the vapo rub a try. I have a lot of issues with unpleasant smells as I ride the bus every day. I carry fragrant body spray with me, but I can't use it in enclosed spaces, partly because it might choke others, and partly because it's fairly obvious that I think someone stinks. I asked my mom the pharmacy tech a few days ago if there was such a thing as a "nasal numbing agent" like they use on Star Trek, she said there wasn't, but the vapo rub might work instead :D

My "wonderful product" is bamboo underwear. :) Better than cotton in all respects.

If anyone wishes to improve my quality of life and has 300GBP to spare, I would LOVE some Bose noise reduction headphones.
