Bad social/language skills
I am currently 20 and throughout my childhood and teenage years always felt different but it wasn't really a big deal until now.
I have problems with
-facial expression, and body language, have inappropriate expressions at times(I may have a smile or smirk on my face if someone is complaining about something to me, it feels awkward) I've had people say I'm like a robot.
-structuring language or expressing what I want to say, I think this is from a combination of being introverted and not paying attention in school, when I took the SATs I scored pretty bad in verbal and diction. I really want to take some sort of class to re-learn or train my self how to use language properly. The bad thing is my parents aren't the best at speaking so I have never really had a chance to learn how to properly talk. I also pronounce some words differently and since middle school my friends have always said that, I just don't know how to correct my self.
-I have a limited number of friends, the only friends I have are because their parents have some sort of relation with mine so I was with them when growing up, but even now they never ask me to do anything with them. Other than that I have like 2 friends from highschool but rarely talk to them or see them.
-I know reading books is supposed to aid in increasing your diction and speaking but I just can't focus because reading is boring to me.
-I am highly obsessed with video games and played a lot throughout school, I think that is all I would do in my spare time for the past 13 years or so I could play WoW or Call of Duty 24/7 if I really wanted to, and I quit playing video games last year thinking It would help me become a more productive person but it really hasn't, rather than having fun in my off time and being mentally stimulated, I'm watching TV or just sitting infront of my computer looking stuff up online.
-I have trouble with conversation because I feel slow or don't get what someone is saying to me, the worst part about this is I work in retail sales and am happy because I am full time and have insurance benefits and such but I feel like I am on the verge of quiting because I just don't feel comfortable talking to people because my speech gets jumbled up and disorganized, and when I try to explain things it is on a much more complex level of detail and customers just have a confused face on them when I am talking to them. It's like I say things that only I understand but no one else does, it gets real frustrating.
I guess I will need to start some sort of therapy to fix all of this, but how much would it cost on average, with or without insurance in the US?
I have seen a psychiatrist before thinking I have ADD and I have been put on adderall, It does give me a boost of confidence and helps with my articualation of speech some and he gave me lorezepam for social anxiety, but even when under medication I still have issues with speech or feel lost for words at times.
