Real help for adults? Does it exist?
You are probably going to have to do a lot of "self help." The Wrong Planet site can help, and also look into books, and other online sites. Also check online for the nearest Autism/Asperger's support groups, and for doctors who specialize in treating adults on the spectrum, for in-person help. However, you are right, the focus is definitely on the younger set. Some people on the spectrum tend to become better at fitting in to society as they get older, others get better at masking their problems while in public. The rest fall by the wayside, and are either mistaken as having other problems, or just opt out of society in one way or another. People who are getting better or at least better at masking symptoms, don't really need much help. Those who fall by the wayside are often beyond help. I am one of those who has opted out, but at least I don't have issues with drugs or booze, or criminal behavior. I am basically just a hermit.
Some of us have been able to be helped as adults. Just finding out in my 40s what is wrong with me was a big help to me, so good luck in your own search.
