Okay, I mentioned this under the "School" section, but no one seemed to be familiar with calling parapros "paras". So, the most annoying parapro I wrote about is possibly going to be in my biology next semester. He's there for a kid in my hour that semester, but I know he'll be hovering over me, too. I'm sorry, but I'm not looking forward to biology. I was so excited to learn about genetics, but now I'll be watched 24/7 by some perv. I didn't mention this in the other post, but he walks through the hallways making weird noises. And they think WE need help!

Paraprofessional what?
Pardon me for asking, This seems like some kind of new thing they didn't have when I was in school.

You must be the luckiest person alive. They "help" kids in special education classes, but they really are college dropouts, people who did crazy things in their young years, or decide they have nothing else to do. All they want is some money, and they get it by hovering over innocent kids.

OK, I get that you don't particularly like this guy, but what exactly makes him a perv? Just curious.

I just get a creepy vibe from him. There's this boy in our class that I have a crush on, and he'll always intercept our conversations. He also looks at me in a weird way and talks to me when I don't want to talk to anyone. I guess I was pretty irked when writing that post, but I'm calmer now.

Glad you're calmer. Maybe he will stay busy with what he's supposed to be doing and not bother anybody but the person he's supposed to be helping. Good luck with it, and just ignore him as well as you can.

I currently work as a teaching assistant and I'm not a college dropout. I'm actually a qualified teacher taking a career break until I retrain to teach a different subject. And I'm very helpful and the students enjoy working with me. Meh.

If you don't want learning support, isn't there a way you can refuse? You can where I live.

He shouldn't hover over you, anyway. He should just let you work and then check if you've understood things or if you need more help. Obviously, he doesn't know what he's supposed to do in his job. You should talk to the special ed department about this because that's the only way anything can be done to fix this. They're there to help you, after all.

Sorry, that wasn't nice of me to generalize. I was just frustrated when I wrote that and acted before I thought. I do know a few nice parapros, so I shouldn't have stereotyped. :(

It's very good of you to admit that. But no worries, we knew you did not mean all of them. :) But I think it is a good idea like the other poster mentioned to talk to the special ed people about this because it can be very distracting and can keep your from working to the best of your ability.

Don't worry about it. I understand that it's embarrassing to have learning support, especially if you're not getting anything useful out of it.

They're spending money on employing assistants, so you should help the school to make sure that the money is well-spent. I don't know how it is where you live, but in my country the whole system of providing learning support is centred around the students and what their needs are. They should listen to you because that's part of their job.
