I have found that I can go for long without eating and not realise I need food, even when I start feeling ill because of lack of food I have to be reminded that its probably because I have not eaten for ages. the only way I know I am hungry is when I actually start eating and suddenly realise I am hungry.

Several years ago I was diagnosed as borderline hypyglycemic. Since then I have been quite aware of my hunger and/or blood sugar levels. I do best when I make it a point to eat something that is high protein and low glycemic index every 3-4 hours. Otherwise I can wig-out with or without any ASD considerations.

It's highly variable. For the most part I'm aware of my hunger, actually more acutely than most people. I think I may be mildly hypoglycemic as well, no diagnosis though.

Often I'll eat a big hearty breakfast and then feel really hungry well before lunchtime. Yet I'm mostly skin and bones. Fast metabolism, I guess... Nobody's ever been able to find anything wrong with my metabolism; they haven't looked specifically for hypo, though.

However, recently it doesn't seem like I'm aware of my hunger every time. I had a pretty nasty blood sugar crash some weeks ago where I felt close to passing out, because I'd been stupid and eaten nothing all day. Should probably approach a doctor about it if it reoccurs.

A person can survive for around 6-8 weeks or longer without food, so going for a day or two without it will usually have no effect on anything as long as they don't make a habit of it.

I'm currently hyperaware of hunger, which makes being even slightly hungry really unpleasant. I have had periods when that wasn't the case, and I won't even notice until I get extremely hungry, lightheaded, headachey or even migrainey.

I feel hunger like most people do, but I know at least two people on the spectrum who don't, one of them being my sister. She's stick thin because of it, but she has enough common sense to feed herself from time to time.

If I get into a regular routine of eating, I notice I will start to feel hungry around meal times. But I forget to eat a lot and the lack of routine means I rarely ever feel hungry. Sometimes if I've gone too long with out eating, I will feel really sick to my stomach (Like I'm going to throw up) It really upsets me because that seems counter productive. I don't understand why I would feel like throwing up when I'm hungry. It makes me NOT want to eat, the only reason I do eat is because I know it will make the nausea go away.

I guess the perk of forgetting to eat often is that I'm rather thin which makes me appealing to other people. I have noticed that people are a lot nicer to those who are thin. I wish I knew why, since biologically humans should want to get close to those over weight to get to their food source.

I have no problems recognizing hunger. If I'm busy doing something I like I can suppress because I'd rather do what I'm doing than eat, but I can't for a long time like some people here seem to.

How long can a person go without food AND water?

I have gotten better about recognizing hunger since I did the therapeutic listening program but I am still bad at it.

But I won't go long without eating because I get headaches that lead to migraines from not eating.

Maybe a week at the most, or much less than a week if the person is perspiring a lot. Water is something you need almost immediately for survival especially in comparison to food which is low-priority.

I am like that too. My sense awareness is really messed up. Sometimes I can go a whole day and not realize that I have not eaten.

yup, I had to make a list of foods I like, and basically schedule out eating times because of it. I tend to not notice
thirst as well :?

I don't know unless I'm starving. I don't even realize I am hungry until I start eating.
