Curious about others...I think mine is more in private... but honestly not sure. it almost feals like two different types of stimming at times. Like it is comfortable to stim at home because I can relax and enjoy it. Stimming in public makes me upset because I do not want to do it but i dissociate is I can't do it when I am in overload.

I stim everywhere, 95% of the time. It's just, when I'm in public, my stims are less obvious; I'll do stuff like play with my bracelet, or pick things up at stores and feel them, and all sorts of stuff like that.

I have started stimming about as much in public as I do in private lately. Mostly because since I was diagnosed two years ago, I started recognizing it as a coping mechanism and I no longer care what people think of it.

Occasionally, I'll stim in public but it's not as much as I do when I'm home.

Big obvious stims I do in private but more discreet stims I do in public also. If I am with with someone I really trust sometimes I do less discreet stims in front of that person.

I do more in private because it's embarrassing to do it in public and looking like a freak. I am talking about things like rocking back and forth.

About the same, almost constantly in private and in public. Though, i do the more obvious ones like pacing, walking in circles, rocking extremely(still do slightly in public) in private. In private and in public almost constantly tapping, playing with pen, rubbing fingers together, bouncing leg, or slightly moving leg muscles; occasionally rubbing face, rubbing hands together, rocking in chair(if not a rocking chair, leaning chair back and rocking like it is a rocking chair...I got in trouble for this in Elementary school since it is kind of dangerous :) ), or bouncing slightly. Usually, if anyone notices they ask if I am nervous or hyper. Though, someone did make the observation that I bounce when excited about something. She copied it, and everyone laughed like they recognized it also.

Private, mostly.

But I have stimmed in public, before.

Just not nearly as much.

I stim pretty much all the time, but I save my larger/more obviously autistic ones for at home.

Pacing is the only stim I do in public and I see many others doing the same. Probably just as many NT´s as Aspies.

Same here. The heavy stims (like flapping my hands when I'm happy/excited) I leave for when I'm alone or with other aspies

I stim more in private, but if I am stressed in public I will start stimming. I also stim around the few friends I have because I know I can trust them and they are used to it.

So much more in public.

More stress = more motor mannerisms.

i wonder if voicing my thoughts out loud (single sentences here and there, sometimes not really all that accurate or on topic) would be considered a stim.
i do that both in public and in private, though I try to suppress it when i realize it calls unwanted attention (sometimes that just makes me do it more).
