Found this on Yahoo: Are any of the Total Drama characters Autistic?
Quote:
I've noticed that some of them have Autistic traits at the very least, and I'm wondering if anybody agrees with me on this? If you don't watch Total Drama or don't care, then do me a favor by not wasting your time getting the **** off of my question.
Ok, first of all buddy, you've only listed some characters with one trait here rather than multiple, meaning that chances are very slim for any of those characters having any form of Autism, much less Aspergers. Second, you need to remember that these characters are stereotypes. I don't think I can stress that enough.
1. Harold-He has a quirky personality, and he doesn't seem to shut up until somebody really tells him up front. He has weird talents and obsessions as well.
While I am kind of skeptical on this one, Harold is just, well... Random. Which is why he's a favorite among some of his audience. You can speculate all you want, but I'm just going to stay skeptical about it.
2. Cody-He's unable to pick up social cues.
Just one social quirk doesn't mean anything... For all we know, he could just be terrible at
dating and picking up chicks, which is what the writers want to convey to the audience.
3. Noah-He mainly has all knowledge and no social skills.
Actually, I kind of agree with this one: Noah does exhibit some traits associated with Aspergers. Aside from the first two you just mentioned, he also speaks in monotone and is terrible at sports, (but the sports thing probably doesn't mean much of anything). However, Noah is also able to use and understand sarcasm. Something that quite a few Aspies aren't able to do... But then again, I understand sarcasm just fine and I'm on the spectrum. Either way, I agree.
4. Gwen-She's real shy and antisocial. Plus she has issues with people, and use her relationship with Trent as a prime example. Her horrible communication skills really did show as well with Trent.
Ok, look. I understand how antisocial Gwen was in season one and how Trent kind of helped her get through it, but... Her stereotype is goth. The other stuff is probably just a coincidence... While I can relate to her in certain ways, I just really don't think that she's on the spectrum...
5. Lindsay-She's takes language literally, and she's unable to read peoples hidden intentions. She can't tell when people are trying to fool her or read facial expressions. Look at her obsessions as well.
Dumb blonde. Mean anything to you? Ok, I don't mean to bash, but Lindsey is just stupid. That's why Heather was so easily able to take advantage of her, because of how dimwitted and oblivious she was to Heather's scheming. I don't know so much about the obsession thing... Probably just because she's another random character.
6. Beth-She has a quirky personality.
Ok, so she's unique. But does that really mean she's on the spectrum?
7. Geoff-He appears to be unable to talk to girls, although that my be out of stupidity rather than Autism.
This makes just about as much sense as saying that Scott's on the spectrum just because of how socially awkward he is around Courtney... And I know that Scott isn't on the spectrum. Clearly, Geoff's just going through that phase that a lot of teenagers go through on TV... He doesn't want to screw up his chances of being with the girl that he likes.
8. Owen-He's always in his own little world.
Same as number six.
9. Heather-She has problems with people.
Ok, now you're just jumping the shark... Something tells me that you haven't seen Heather's message from home video: It clearly showed how much her parents hated her, (selling her stuff, throwing a party). Maybe she just has family issues? She even showed some insecurity at some point, too. Maybe that's why she has problems with people?
10. Sierra-She might be OCD.
Stereotyping. She's a parody of how an obsessive Total Drama fan would be.
As you can see, I disagreed with a lot of this list.
