The thing I love about this forum is that it demonstrates the struggles with Theory of Mind in ways that we can all relate to. When we hear 'that' in correspondence to an object, it is interpreted as 'that', and only 'that'. This is relative to the 'forest and the trees' analogy, where we can't always see the inclusiveness of the whole and end up getting lost in the individual parts. This perception is evident in various domains of the brain's function, amongst multiple pathways with similar shapes and contours, implying similar mechanisms for all of our unique cognitive perceptions. Genetic mishap? I'm still searching for the answer, because you begin to wonder whether we all have differences to some degree, NTs and Aspies alike, but NTs can tune their differences out and tune in to other NT's similarities and shared interests on a level that is normal and beneficial. Why is this? It must be an inborn social skill. Maybe the direction of the Aspie's wiring does not favor this skill, but favors other domains more prominently. What is happening at birth that prevents us from being fully developed and NT? What is the reason for developmental disorders, developmental delays, Asperger's Syndrome, high functioning Autism, and the epigenetic factors beyond a person's control that create what we are and who we are? Why are these things happening? Are they mistakes? Why can't everyone be perfect or NT? Why the differences? Why?

really I thought it was the other way around ?

Actually, on this one, I agree with aussiebloke.

I must admit, I picked this up myself when I saw it but didn't bother to say anything.

I do have a few Special Interests that have been with me my whole life (or a lot of it) but they tend to ebb and flow in and out of popularity over the years BUT I have a main one that is all consuming, takes up ALL of my time and is on my mind no matter where I am, what I'm doing or what the time is. My Special Interests do also end up costing me a lot of money but I wouldn't say I have a wide-variety of interests. I'd say I've got a couple of main Primary Interests that change around from time to time - and then there are my Secondary Interests that also come and go but on a much slower orbit.

:!:

It might of just been a typo, but my special interests can be pretty different compared to other peoples'.

You have a run in with a aspie lady here who claimed the :men at the meet ups " either irritated her or aroused her self pity" you think to yourself sounds about right to me. Than you ask her if she thought it was a one way street oddly enough you do not receive a response it's still playing on your mind years latter. :P

Ps you also think if that lady where to meet you you would do both !

Well, at least you achieved something.

They used to call me the quiet achiever - because I hadn't quite achieved anything?

Speedie was another thing they used to call me - but I wasn't fast.

And professor - they were always knocking me about using big words but I didn't think there was anything particularly big about the words I used. They were just silly NTs. :)

I get this one every single day. haha.

You know you're an Aspie when you'd rather sit and watch a screen saver than go to class.
(I have done this a few times this school year...)
