am completely androgynous, though am not sure how much of that is caused directly by autism or if its because of the intelectual disability side;am completely unable to understand societal boundaries such as why genders are different [right down to the basics] and usualy get confused with being male and gay, when am adrogynous and the most obvious form of asexuality;ie,lacking everything to do with sexuality.

will never understand why society has rules about what men and women can and cant do-or can and cant wear.
me neither!

I am a female. Everytime I go anywhere it is usually children that mistake me for a man wearing makeup. My body is pure feminine, perfect hourglass shape, big boobs, the works! But my face. I neither look male or female. If I didn't wear makeup I look like a man. When I wear makeup, I either end up looking like a transvestite or a prostitute.

Hence the sephiroth profile pic... hmm...

That's interesting and that appears to be morphological correlation as indicated in the research that males with so called higher functioning Autism have masculine faces and feminine body features per more shapely hips, and women relatively feminine bodies and conversely more masculine faces.

I've seen it time and time again in real life; and it seems apparent even on this website where some members dhare their full photos.

Yes, I have an extremely male face but even at 230Lbs of relatively extreme muscle mass; I still have somewhat curvy hips, but it makes me a a hell of a dancer; at least that is what the other dancers say; among other things.

In other words there are advantages too. Folks in the workplace tend to take a female with a more masculine face more seriously too; it's the law of the jungle, and not always a bad law at all; all things considered. :)

Oh and by the way, for those folks who might be interested in going into a counseling field, science now shows too, that clients feel more comfortable with an androgynous counselor than a polar 'genderized' one.

And that makes sense, in the general sense, where often some form of gender identity confusion or non-acceptance is behind issues like depression, anxiety, social anxiety, and in my opinion possibly behind so called higher functioning autism; in general, as folks who are not accepted do tend to withdraw from the reciprocal social interaction game; perhaps pursue mechanical cognition interests in things and animals in general over other human beings; but people do what they have to do to survive; nothing new there; sometimes the psychiatrist and psychologist folks make the study of the human mind more complicated than it needs to be.

But it would certainly explain the correlation of the study linked above; a self fulfilling prophecy, if one wills.

Right, it's not so much that autism causes androgyny, but more that physically androgynous people are also neurologically androgynous, and being that effects our ability to feel embodied and establish peer relationships at an appropriate age.
Well autism itself is probably many things and there is definitely an aspect of much slower emotional maturation going on, but the possible additional difficulties with gender identity or expected gender role behaviours really don't help matters.

What causes androgyny in the first place? Well most likely pre-natal hormones, but there are also probably a number of genetic risk factors.

I'm biologically female but I identify as male. However I do believe that I might have androgynous physical features. My face looks slightly feminine but I have broad shoulders and a flat chest. But my hips are wide although my waist is slim. I'm also very stocky and my arms look a bit muscular, like a male's arms and my feet are wide too.

About the age part mentioned in the article, I do look very young for my age. I have been mistaken for a twelve year old by strangers and teachers at my school. Not to mention a group of twelve year olds at school mistook me for someone in their year too. :P
