My HFA son-- he did say a few words around age three, but after a week or so of rarely hearing one of the words, we never heard them again. He said "piekay" for pancake, "mm" for "mama" and "key" for "door." Then there was a long period of silence until age 5. He didn't use sentences till age 6. Now he talks a lot (age 10) but can be hard to understand.

I don't have a kid, but now I know I was walking and at least saying simple sentences by 10 months.

I said my first word around six months. I think it was "Mama." At 11 months, I said "Tweety," which was the name of my first cat. Of course, it had to be something cat-related!

I said my first word when I was about 1 year old and it was "baba" which means dad... and as far as I know, I made 6-9 word sentences at age 2 and a half with near-correct grammar.

My son was about 2 1/2 when he had his first words. Though, weirdly enough, he said, "Mama" in his sleep when he was an infant, 8 months or so.

I was saying words around 1 and my husband didn't talk until 4 years.

My daughter was around 1 when she said her first word, but later became electively mute outside the home. She has NVLD. My son was 2 or perhaps a little later. He had many ear infections and eventually had tubes inserted in his ears so there are mitigating circumstances. He started talking in complete sentences and he has the label AS now. At age 5, he couldn't stop talking.

I said my first words at around 10 months old. I then swore, in proper context, at 12 months old.

No kids, but I said "Dada" when I was eight months old. I'm so boring. I couldn't have come up with a better first word than that? :)

Took me until... All I know is I started late, and my first word was "s**t."

It's quoted as a historical reference, so it's legal to post that.

My ma said I was able to speak when everyone else could, but I rarely did…. She said she didn't mind, 'sidering my sister (who came first a few years prior) was the polar opposite of me. :)

Heh, it also didn't help that I got slapped for my first word, no matter what it was.

I was pretty much mute - I didn't even baby babble - up until just under the age of three. Then out of the blue I used sentences like if my brother held a ball and said "that's my ball" I snatched the ball off him and echoed the same words back at him "that's my ball" then even repeating much longer sentences like "these are my new buckle up shoes" I would repeat it back. "these are my new buckle up shoes" That is what really set me on track to speaking.
