I've always needed at least a sheet on me to sleep, even in summer. If I can't fall asleep, sometimes I wrap myself up in the sheet tightly and that helps me fall asleep. For this reason I was also thinking of buying a weighted blanket but they're so darn expensive.

Yes, and quite often. I cannot sleep if I haven't had pressure exerted on my body (torso and sides) and without it, my mind seems to be in a state of perpetual overdrive. Pressure allows my mind to become focused and calm. Around the house or among close friends, I will wear a flak vest (heavier than the weighted vests and has a more desirable weight distribution) but in public I just wear my concealable body armor to acheive a similar (though not as intense) effect. When alone, I will often place heavy objects (some of which are upwards of 80lbs) on myself as well.

I often crave this sort of pressure, but only get anything close to it though my weighted blanket. How do you usually get deep/hard pressure on your chest?

Very tight hugging is one way - I can't stand any other type of hugging actually. One with both people squeezing hard.

I can do it with my own arms to myself - just crossing arms or putting them across my chest somehow and squeezing - or I can squeeze myself against objects and things like that.

Another way - laying down and putting heavy things on your chest.

This company sells a squeeze vest (you blow it up) - http://www.squeasewear.com/ - has anyone used one of these?

I have developed back problems from years of heavy lifting.

I started to wear a back support at work and found this also provides deep pressure/compression to the abdomen too.

Yes, seems to work for me.

I always used to prefer loose, baggy clothing before. When I started to wear the back brace I felt the benefits were more than just physical support. Wearing the brace next to the skin can be irritating/sweaty and over a loose t-shirt included lots of folds of cloth which was extremely unpleasant.

I have also tried sports compression clothing, it also has a beneficial effect for me. The cheap ones are not comfortable, seam irritation especially, or expensive and a fight to get on and off.

I have since bought tight fitting vest and long short underwear, a size smaller than usual, high cotton content with lycra/spandex mix. This gives a sense of compression over my upper body to just above my knees, so covering the area that a short sleeveless wetsuit would. This gives me a constant reminder of body limits which I find reassuring, otherwise I feel like I inhabit a void. I can then easily put on the back support over the vest and under outer wear if needed.

Back braces available from chemists, online physio/sports stores and hardware type shops (larger sizes only).

The squeeze vest seems interesting. They offer try before you buy rental scheme within europe.

I tried the vest but it does not 'do it' for me. But I am very pleased to have tried it.

Good sources/instructions for weighted blankets? Still looking...
Not necessarily of the pelleted type...
Used to be the pea...piling the many blankets and anyone on top as a kid, like Princess and the pea, only I would be underneath, content.
