The worst thing is when someone asks me to smile when I was already happy and thought I was already smiling. Then if I do try to smile it looks so fake.

But usually if a person tells me that I just get so frustrated and annoyed, and it makes me mad.

I think it's ironic that a statement that people would like it if I seemed happier has a tendency to make me incredibly mad.

One thing that does make me smile, though, is to tell me a really funny joke. If I have heard a really funny joke I will actually have a real and noticeable smile. If someone wants me to smile that's the best way to make it happen.

Ever had this problem where friends, family and/or coworkers have asked you to smile more often, laugh a bit more or engage in some other pointless display of superfulous merriment when you're not necessarily unhappy, just in a nuetral mood?

I get the complete opposite. At this place I volunteer, this guy annoys me sometimes because he always ask me what I'm smiling at. And family sometimes does this too. As far as I know, I'm not smiling.

I hate this too. I'm not even sure what they see that makes them ask.

I rarely feel like smiling. I do sometimes because it would be rude not to. I don't share the merriment of social exchange either. Actually, things that make me smile almost never have to do with a social exchange. I wish it was acceptable not to have to smile when in the company of others.

I came up with a truly awful fake smile (practiced it in front of a mirror, actually) so that when people would tell me to smile, I could plaster that on my face. They would never mention it again. :D

I rarely move my facial muscles into expressions but nobody notices as they don't notice me as a whole.
I guess I am lucky :D .
Also, it is difficult for me to smile like everybody else does and my smile looks bad, it took me a long time to get it to even this stage as I practiced my facial expressions a lot so I wouldn't stick out. I stopped using my facial expressions a while back though.

I smile a lot, actually, especially when I was a child of 8, 9 years old but not after that and as an adult the last few years.

This means that I decided to smile less often. Why? Because with smiling I attracted unwanted people, so I thought, when I smile less, people will leave me alone and will bully less. Since I noticed that bullying is now something of the past and not of the presence, I started smiling again. I won't run the risk to attract people that I don't want.

I smile a lot when I'm happy. I just think it's difficult for me to do the social smiling. People can fake their smiling, I can't.
