Adult Diagnosis?
I'm visiting the autism service for the first time in a couple of weeks and was wondering what to expect. I already have a diagnosis of bipolar 2 and dyspraxia, so I've been in and out of various health services since childhood (due to other conditions as well).
I'm 30, female and going through NHS services.
I'm a bit anxious, as I'm not great at explaining myself (or anything personal really... Philosophy or nature on the other hand...) and have heard it's really difficult to get an aspergers or autism diagnosis alongside an existing bipolar diagnosis. I'm currently a student and am hoping I may get some help to get better with social skills and other issues (I panic for example if something has been misplaced and often feel uncomfortable in social situations).
I'd like to hear from people diagnosed as adults... What the process was, how effective the support was and any advice you have.
Thanks for your time.
Went to GP. They referred me.
2 weeks later, letter to say I'm on waiting list at local Autism specialist.
2 weeks later, a letter for an appointment for 14th March.
14th March, had the appointment, they asked me questions about my childhood, routine, concentration, school, home life, etc. and I took in a school report as they asked for one (only one I had) and they ask to bring a parent too but that wasn't possible.
Appointment lasted an hour or so. It went smoothly, although I was very nervous, and was twiddling my thumbs like mad.
