People have a false sense of what is realistic. What is "realistic" is only realistic according to their own mindset.

People who are negative/pessimistic are simply people who blame external factors/conditions for their problems and do nothing about the problems but complain about how unfair the world is to them on messageboards. In other words, they REFUSE to become bigger than their problems.

And, what about people who simply understand their own limitations (I suppose, to use your terminology, they blame themselves, not others)? Just curious.

People who understand their own limitations but do nothing to overcome them will simply stay in a rut and miss out on what life has to offer. It's appalling how many people these days don't take responsibility for themselves and depend on someone or something to take care of them, be it the government, parents, mental health professionals, or even a job. When the system they're dependent on doesn't meet expectations, they blame the system and never themselves. Unfortunately, I'm referring to 90% of the world's population.

I never actually understood what that ("miss out on what life has to offer") means. Though, I imagine it has a different meaning for each person. I suppose, in some ways, you only "miss out" if you have some pre-conceived expectations. I don't have any. As such, I never miss out on anything.

My guess is that this probably been true throughout the course of humanity (and has nothing to do with "people these days"). I am not appalled by that. I just see it as part of being human.
