For me, the negatives of socializing feel like:
crashing head-first on the bottom of a dry swimming pool -- and only THEN finding out that you dove in! Talk about "WTF?!"! !!

And before I knew I had AS, my social overloads and shutdowns were like going home to discover a crack in my head, and wondering where it came from. So back then, I didn't even know I crashed in the pool, let alone know I dove into it! Here's to learning a step at a time. :?

Is like being tied up with a rope and every attempt you make to untangle it, it just tangles up more.

Like being trapped in a zoo pen full of gorillas. Constantly being paranoid about accidentally making the wrong body language or making eye contact with the gorillas. Any wrong move or body language will cause the gorillas to get aggressive. A situation where I immediately need to escape or I will get hurt in some way.

Social gatherings are like roller skating on I-95 while blindfolded.

Its like going to see a movie everyone says is great. But then I get there and the movie sucks. And I spend the entire time waiting for it to end.

It depends on who is going to be there, do I want them to see me or not?

Talking on the phone or Emails is a lot better sometimes.

Trust Me, Nerotypicals do it too, but would NEVER admit it to people like Us. I wonder why?

I am an NT (or so I'm told) and not only do I dislike almost all other NT's and social functions, I married a wonderfully anti-social AS man. I've given birth to 2 AS sons and 1 NT daughter and 1 NT son who are far from normal. ( I think I may be trying to populate the world with people I like). I have Crohn's colitis (stomach disease) and would rather be subjected to any of the tests that they do for it than hang out at social events with other NT's. I don't even like them on the phone.

My husband is the same way. He is 'NT' but not at all like the average annoying person.

Im not too good with Social Gatherings as, often is the case I try to be most sincere and appear to be enjoying what is going on but, it's not easy when you simply do not wish to be in a given scenario. I'm I coming across clearly?

Being in social gatherings is like sticking bamboo shoots under my toenails.

...riding a bike against 500 monster trucks on a 2 mile, 2 metre wide track.
