I would rather go to a special interest group. Just because another person has Asperger's doesn't necessarily mean that we have anything in common other than that.

for me, just having the aspergers in common was enough, as it is such an all-encompassing thing.

Why do you care more about what NTs think of you than aspies? Their opinion is no more or less valuable.

I don't really care what aspies think because they probably won't notice my social mistakes. Since I don't think they'll notice my social mistakes I'm not as afraid of making them. I still avoid saying offensive stuff, but I'm not too worried about looking normal or equal. With most NTs I'm very worried about coming accross as their their equal.

I am not as concerned with what NTs think of me because there are things I can do that the average NT cannot do.

I would definitely go. But watching the movie Mozard and the Whale gave me an idea of how some reunions can be (it doesn't mean all reunions are like in the movie of course, but it can be, at least to a point), and I am aware that some people might have more severe issues than myself, and/or that some of us might annoy each other, etc, and I am ready to deal with that and I accept it (heck I think I would even like to help organise reunions, like Donald does in the movie). I still think it must be great to meet other people who are not NTs, and not be the only "different" one for once, and I am totally willing to participate, and help if I can.

Hello,

Anybody who finds Asperger Meetup groups with those "awesome dynamics" involving that mix of thoughtful Neurotypicals (NTs) esp. those with at least some experience with Aspergers, are often Meetup groups deserving high-ratings!

There are different groups focusing on the whole gambit of age-ranges. The best groups support that mix of "self-advocacy" in an NT world, as well as opportunities to receive support through mentors, advocacy, i.e., wingman to boost independence; similarities to the very supports than even NTs need at times!

Let's boost discussions on Asperger Meetup groups (another idea for a focused WP Forum?), instead of letting the topics of Meetup groups, advocacy, mentors, etc. "get lost in the shuffle!"

Thank-you

I don't get it,why are WP members so much ''better''
than average ASD group members.
do mild,pretty,romantic successful ASD'ers avoid
asd groups? Do ASD group only attract the more
severe,the less successful,the loner,weird types?

I think that higher functioning ASD people are probably more prevalent on this website. I mean come on most low functioning people are not going to be on websites like this. Those types of lower functioning people are also more likely to be pushed to go to ASD groups from their parents/caregivers or whoever but I could be speculating. I mean there are some lower functioning ASD people on this website and its pretty obvious that they are just by their posts.

What a horrible, bigoted, and untrue thing to say!! I see better quality posts here from ALL of the forum members then I see at many NT forums.

I think I will go find a safe place before this happens...... 8O

If you are seriously going to try to deny that you cant tell some of the members are very low functioning by their posts than you are lying. I'm just pointing out a fact.

It is Asperger types like you that create the stereotype that we are all a bunch of elitists. I think you should get to know some people better on here from ALL points on the spectrum before coming to an incorrect conclusion such as that. That is unless you are just TROLLING here....

I can tell them by their posts, they are very eloquent, at least the two of them that I know pretty well.

I'm not trying to be rude or elitist or anything. I have met many ASD people from all over the spectrum and have liked them all. All I'm saying is that there are some low functioning ASD members on here and it is pretty obvious. How is that controversial?

You aren't controversial, that's a tired old argument you're making.
