I've always been slow at anything that wasn't a special interest.

Yup.

I'll figure out what someone meant in a conversation 3 days later. And, the same with forum threads unless they're simple like this one.

I can fix computers and do some programming and other semi-complicated things, but only if I work at about 1\10 normal speed (literally).

There are some long forms I just had to fill out, and I had to call for more time.

Slow, slow, ...slowww.

I did manage to get slightly fancy college degree, though it was kind of ruinous.

I've never agreed with people using "slow" as a slur (not saying you are, OP). I can do a lot, actually, just not at the speed that people demand.

I'm probably too fast for my own good

Maybe slow is good in this instance.

Depends upon what it is. If it is physical in nature, I am SLOW mainly because I have to be VERY deliberate in my actions. Otherwise I break things or can hurt myself as I am totally uncoordinated. I used to be very quick mentally at learning things, but now I find that I have a super hard time concentrating and I can't remember anything. Most frustrating because mentally I was pretty sharp at things I liked especially. Now, I am slow as a turtle and have to read and re-read things and 10 minutes later I'll forget. Last employer I had got totally fed up with me over this. :( I am pretty much unemployable now especially with my physical limitations. They are getting worse with no answers or resolution in sight. And no job, no insurance all I can do is go to the free clinic. They have done all they can say I need specialists. Good luck with that.....

I am very slow as well. I was bullied in high school because I always took way longer to finish tests and assignments than the rest of the students. They didn't exactly like me to begin with and the they got annoyed that they had to wait quietly while I finished. I now have double time on exams as an accommodation in college.

But I'm slower at almost all other things too, not just in academics. I really hate it too.

I've always been rather slow, unless you count the anxiety related 'racing thoughts' but sometimes I am slow because so much is going on in my mind I can't decide what to do or what to initiate as quickly. Also I've always been rather slow at physical tasks, even simple repetitive things which doesn't go over to well on jobs :( . I've also had people tell me I'm slow as an insult or I got 'ret*d' a lot. I was actually fairly smart when it came to a lot of academic topics, and I liked learning about stuff on my own so I read all the time and took in lots of info.

But yeah since I got PTSD its harder for me to concentrate and focus which I used to be able to do with certain topics....even when it comes to researching topics I really like or doing activities I enjoy or activities that need to be done.

My hand eye coordination is pretty bad too. Forget about hitting a ball with a bat, I can't hit a motionless golf ball with a putter!

I agree, I am always being told that I am too fast, walking, talking, working, thinking . . .
Occasionally this causes mishaps (like walking into a glass door, several times - not the same one though:), annoyance (the talking and working bit), frustration (thinking - makes me skip words, sentences, chapters in discussions, and keeps me awake at night), so all in all neither being perceived as too slow nor too fast is easy to live with.
The best option for me is to accept the way I operate so others can learn to accept it too.

Can I ask how old you are and if you are on any medications?

When I was in school I had this feeling a lot. Last night I realized that when I was in school a lot of it must have had to do with being in a social situation all day long. I am a compleatly different person when I am around other people. WHen I was in school I didnt know about my autism and so I was never able to figure it out.

How "slow" do you feel when you are by your self in your room thinking about things while you are excited? Do you go at the same speed when you are around a lot of other people? Introspect for a while and see what you come up with.

I used to hate my self because I never knew why I acted the way I did around other people as I did when I was alone. Now I know that its because my brain has to change when I am around other people.

Another slowpoke here. I'm slow at just about everything.

For the record it makes no difference whether or not I'm around people. I was slow at stuff in school and I'm slow at stuff when I'm home alone. I'm only on asthma medication (and I was slow before I was diagnosed with asthma too).
