My cousin's son is autistic, and another cousin has a grandchild with Asperger's. Both of these cousins are on my dad's side of the family.

Does anyone else have a relative with autism/asperger's? If so, what side of the family are they on?

Well, never confirmed this was but, I feel my Aunt Hazel whom passed away 7yrs ago most likely was Autistic from the basis of her mannerisms being fairly close to my own.Anyways, that's as close I can come to in regards to a family member being within the Autistic Spectrum.

I think probably my brother and his sons do, but they aren't diagnosed. I'm pretty positive that my brother and at least one of his sons has it. I also suspect that my neice's son has something going on as well, maybe HFA since he didn't talk for a long time but when he did it was perfect. Besides, he's always gotten along with me and that's a sure sign!

I have no idea where we get it. I was talking to an uncle last weekend and started to think about a cousin who left years ago. I'm thinking he might have it but there would be no way to tell now since he's long gone and no way to find him. If that were true, it would have come from my father's side, but whether it was his maternal or paternal side I couldn't tell you.

im not sure 100% but i do have a cousin and an aunt who i suspect are aspies, the cousin is a computer repair tech who loves beatles music, and has spacific pattern of thinking, and enjoys computers

my aunt, shes a mechanic and thinks much like i do (mechanically inclined) was really shocked (no pun intended) when i showed her i actually have door closers (she asked if i had any)

my other aunt (aunt's mom) dont believe in autism and aspergers as disorders, i have told her about me having the disorder and shes like naa, that was caused because your grandmother didnt let you do anything like walk or get any social interaction.

so who knows, maybe my cousin and aunt are aspie and not really beleiving beucase of what the aunt's mom says???
my dad, i have a feeling some traits of it, he has set routine, and is picky at things, special interest was cj (old military) jeeps and i guess faded off for a while.

my mom, aspie traits there she was over talkative and her special interest was jewelry, it got to point were she was hiring a cab to go downtown so she can talk the ears of the jewelers, she did this about every day. in a way i feel bad for the jewelers tryign t work and my mom talking their ears off about gems and gold. i have told her that she might be seen as suspicious while doing that, shoplifters sometimes help of partners to distract the owner or jeweler while the shoplifter goes to work stealing the goods. this talking thing would go on about all day until jeweler would actually give her a freebee just to get her out of their store while on outside they show really interested in what my mom has to say and converse with her. she also was routine based

i also remember some traits in my brother, but his official dx was ODD oppositional defient disorder (yea he was bad) his traits were inability to have freinds and had obcession for kurdt cobain and jimi hendrix and even played his guitar like the 2 stars.

I have many aspies on my father's side of the family. My father was probably an aspie. He seldom talked to anyone and socialized through drinking. He had a sister who was reportedly autistic (non-verbal, spun around in circles), but she died at a young age. One of his brothers I suspect also an aspie and another one had traits. My grandmother also had traits and was very practical in her thinking as opposed to emotional.

No-one in my family has been diagnosed with AS other than me, but at a guess my dad would be closest to having AS.

I'm adopted so I have no idea. My husband's grandma was very Aspie-ish but it's complicated because she had a nervous breakdown in her 30's. So, most of her life was spent totally different from what she might have been in her younger years. And her husband was made schizophrenic after a head injury. In any case, my husband says I remind him of Grandma a lot. Before our son was born, we associated all that obsessive behavior to PTSD. They both had it. You could say the word, "farm" and Grandma's eyes would get really big and she'd start telling all these crazy stories about her life on the farm. She couldn't cook but she could bake wonderfully.

I'm the only one diagnosed but my grandmother could have had it and my uncle probably has it. My cousin might have it too. My parents have the traits and so does one of my brother's.

I suspect one of my parents of having an autism spectrum disorder, then there is me and one of my children has strong aspie traits.

I am currently asking around the family to see if any cousins or aunties or uncles have anything similar.

We're all pretty confident about the following: both my mom's parent were AS, and so are she and all her 6 siblings. My mom is the highest functioning of them all. Three aunts are basically pretty low-functioning: very hyper, tempermental, rigid with routines, and behave pretty much like 8 year olds! Out of us 17 cousins, I'd say that 10 of us are definitely on the spectrum. I'm the only one officially diagnosed, although I've got a few cousins who are pretty low-functioning. Out of all their kids, 4 have already been diagnosed with AS, and it looks like there are more to come.

My 11-year old cousin on my mother's side is autistic and nonverbal. My maternal grandfather has some noticeable aspie traits.

Lets see...my paternal grandfather's brother...had something....which caused him to never marry, never bathe hoard cats, huge stacks of newspaper, and other things more disturbing...He was obsessed with stock markets..there is a distant cousin who is low functioning....

I remember my grandfather was always worried about me not turning out right...

I think my grandmother might have AS. I think we share a number of characteristics.

-Quietness and solitude
-Sarcasm
-Accusations of rudeness

Right now, though, she's in the early stages of Alzheimer's. The one relative of mine that I seemed to relate to...

My cousin's son is the only one (except me) with an official diagnosis, but my mom, brother, maternal grandmother and both of my potential fathers (there's a story) show a variety of symptoms that fall on the spectrum.
