Been there, done that. Used to get this crap alot in high school in particular. Get it every now and then currently, but not very often.

My response to this is pretty simple. As it is, I tend to sort of radiate an aura that says "I hate everything. I hate you too. Dont even think of getting in my way, you ineffective twit". That's sort of my default state, and one of the reasons I chose the name "Misery". If I have derpage thrown at me though, I tend to just give a look of utter disdain at whoever is doing it, a look that says "Why are you even bothering with that crap? You're not even worth the braincells it takes to contemplate your stupidity". This is then followed by completely ignoring them, no further reaction whatsoever.

And I never, ever use violence. There's a saying I always like to go by that I read in a book somewhere: "The first man to resort to violence is the first man to run out of ideas". Back in highschool, I used to get pestered really frequently, by damn stupid fools trying to get some sort of reaction out of me (except for the 2 days of the week when I carried a golf club everywhere, though as I'm non-violent I dunno what in the heck they thought I was going to do with it). This lasted for a good chunk of highschool in general, though eventually I decided that it was getting annoying, and.... well, by my senior year, there werent many who were bloody stupid enough to get in my way. There are other ways to shut down people like that, ways that break no rules, cause no physical damage, and I'm very.... inventive, about that sort of thing when I need to be.

My point though is that there's always SOME good way to deal with this sort of thing, without having to attack someone and without having to do something illegal. Much of the time though, it's best to just ignore it.... your typical bully is usually dumber than a sack of hammers, and likely has alot of personal issues; plenty of them are bullying others as a way to "vent" their problems.

I know it's hard, but just dont let them get to you. Recognize your own self-worth, and do your best to simply be self-confident.... it helps more than you might think.

He kept this up so I shouted at him "Yeah, f**k you too" and prepared to walk on. He had 5 or 6 mates with him and they all stopped and lined up, all grinning and all obviously ready to make something of this. I carried on walking and got my train.

I think you handled this perfectly. As far as the incident being stuck in your mind, it should be stuck in a good way. The thugs were probably drunk and looking to beat someone up. You thwarted them. You can't change the ugliness of their behaviour but you can be happy you handled it successfully.

Very occasionally even these days I get cursed at from teens speeding by in cars. And since it happens only occasionally and thus is unexpected they do get thier wish and get me to jump. It has been a few years but on rare occasions I have had objects thrown at me from teens speeding by in cars.

I don't think it was me. I think they would have done it to anybody walking alone there at that moment. And I think that is what happened to you. But I could be wrong. I and you will will never know for sure so it is pointless to obsess over their twisted motives.

You just have to accept there are idiots and they do things for attention from their mates. I've had similar, I was standing extremely quietly minding my own business in a take-away but a group of people waiting for their meals thought they would all take out their phones and start filming me. What on earth did I do to warrant that? I can't remember what I said but it shut them up.
Aerosols!! !! !! !! !

Been there man.

In fact, I'm wearing round glasses right now. Luckily no-one's poking fun at me through my bedroom window at 2am though. But I've been there, and I've been there when some group around you and tear at you like that solely for being a nearby target. Round glasses aren't a legitimate reason because they're cool.

All the best. Some of these things can hurt you for inexplicably long times. Over a week even. Once one of a group of drunk "LADS" on the train knelt on me and unzipped himself to have a wee on me. I obviously went straight out of there, but he carried on relieving himself on the seat where I'd been sat minding my business. The most arbitrary, horrid things. Somehow, that one didn't get to me as much as others have.

I had to deal with two twatwaffles when I was gathering my recycling on my bike a few mornings ago. One of them dropped an empty can into a bus bench garbage basket. The other one said, "Good one!" They gave each other fives and started laughing their heads off. As I was riding past the little squirts, I said "It takes one to know one!" One of them stopped laughing and asked the other one what I said.

I sometimes get boys aged between 16 and 24 making stupid noises when they're near me. It does upset me, because I never know if they are trying to get my attention because they think I'm attractive, or if it's just a way of laughing at me. It does upset me. If they thought I was that attractive and wanted my attention (which I don't see why not because I am slim and pretty and wear nice clothes), I wish they would get my attention in a more appropriate way, like giving me a smile or a nod. That way they will get a smile back from an attractive girl and it will make me feel good and make them feel good too. So that is why something tells me that they make silly noises because they are laughing at me, and it really does upset me.

Often the way we walk is awkward and people notice, and then we get made fun of. Used to happen to me a lot. As my anxiety decreased and as I began lifting weights so I didn't look like a stick, all that seemed to stop.

I've had similar experiences my whole life. Sometimes it's been random bullying or harassment, as others have pointed out. Sometimes it seems to be directed at a thing that makes me stand out.

About a year ago I was walking in a downtown area taking photographs. I have a nice, leather safari type hat that I call my "Ansel Adams" hat, and I often wear it when I'm out on my photo expeditions. A car filled with college-aged kids drove past me and they must have decided I was an easy target for ridicule, because one of them yelled something like, "Nice hat, f**got!"

I do have a rather large head, and this hat was bought from an online store that caters to the "cranially endowed." So maybe it was my oversized noggin that drew their ridicule. Or maybe it was my bouncy gait. Or maybe it was just a car full of bored, oafish teenagers who had nothing better to do. I didn't bother yelling anything back because... well, delayed processing.

Your glasses sound awesome! If I wore glasses those sound like exactly the type I'd go for! Steampunk style! Me jealous too :)

Sorry you had to go through that experience. You handled it fine, I would have told them to eff themselves too!

It's posts like these that make me wonder what's wrong with the world.

You were right not to yell anything back. They were probably just trying to provoke a response.

I've had similar experiences as a younger teenager. People used to call me Harry Potter because I had shorter hair and wore glasses at the time. It might sound funny but I was a 13 year old girl trying desperately to fit in and the ones doing the name-calling were 14 year old boys and it was devastating to me at the time. :(

I've also had random teenagers shout things at me from their cars.

One time that sticks out for me in my mind was a boy in my year who threw stones at me in the schoolyard. Thankfully he left the school a few months later.

I find it's not just teenagers though. I've had old ladies roll their eyes at me or speak to me quite aggressively because of something I've done or said that seems awkward.
