My name is Ashley. 23-years-old. The past 10 years of my life have been about seeing psychiatrists and misdiagnosis and every medication in the book. I need direction to get a legitimate diagnosis to open more resources. Alabama being where I reside- you can imagine we're the last to be informed of anything. Does any one know of a mentor source or ANYTHING that can lead me to a diagnosis or a referral to a neuropsychologist?

Sorry to hear you have had such bad experiences with people that should be helping you. I have experienced that most psychiatrists and stuff suck at their jobs. You got to keep searching. I found a very good one and it just felt right when I had my first conversation. You will feel it when they know what they are doing.

Good luck searching, hope someone knows somewhere for you.

Call the nearest graduate school of clinical psychology. They may be able to evaluate you free or low-cost, or refer you to someone. If you have medical insurance, call them and ask for someone who specializes in autism or Asperger's Syndrome. There are also sometimes doctor search functions on autism organization websites.

Go to grasp.org and register there, after they approve your registration request they can assist you in getting a diagnosis. I actually just got approved today and they immediately sent a message asking if I needed assistance in getting a diagnosis in my area. I actually at this point am already scheduled for an evaluation so I told them I didn't need them to help me find one, but if you are having that much trouble then it would probably be a good idea to try with them.

It took a little while to get approved, I sent them a message after two weeks asking about it and they approved me the next day (today). So maybe after like a week send a message, I am not sure but it seems like that is the reason I finally ended up getting approved, since it happened almost immediately after. Hope this helps.

I recommend moving to another state.

That would be ideal in the circumstances that I had not already burned all of my bridges and become somewhat of a charity case. Also laid off due to the essential tremor which seems to freak people out- I actually let my new employer know that it is what it is. It doesn't bother me if it doesn't bother you. We will see how this 'Palm Beach Tan' CSR position plays out. I look the part- and we(aspergians) generally have a pretty strong performance face. fingers crossed.
