I do it all the time. People are often annoyed by it and ask me to stop. Some of my friends just put their hand on my knee and that is my cue to stop it. I tend to do it more when my brain is heavily engaged in something, like learning a new piece of music or during a voice lesson. My tutors, for the most part, are understanding. I have done it while observing others lessons and it was said to be distracting. I am apologetic about it, for the most part. Should I be? Perhaps not.

No more than an NT should be apologetic about boring you with small talk. Sorry, that was a dig at NT's (bastards)!

No more than anyone should be apologetic about burping. It's just one of those normal, natural things you can't help that just happen. You're no more to blame for stimming than you are for blurting. For us, it just comes naturally!

I haven't felt the need to rock since I was on GEODON. Evil antipsychotic that scrambles your brains and sends you into a realm that makes you feel like your body is coming apart. I rocked alot back then. I preferred a rocking chair too.

I'm sitting here all alone and rocking very slowly. Very relaxing. Very soothing!

Ahhhh!

I prefer Joan Jett and the Blackheads to that version.

I've been looking at rocking chairs on eBay. They're not too pricey but I need to get the "perfect" one. Antique like!

When I rocked, I sat in an outdoor rocking chair in the summer. I was lucky we already had it. It's heavy duty metal so I could rock as long and hard as I wanted without wearing it out. I love antiques, too, though.

Yes. I find it soothing. Also, it seems to help me mentally process complicated things, helps me better handle complex tasks, handle stress more smoothly.

There seems to be both "working-a-problem-out/stress-reducing rocking," as well as "happy, gosh-this-feels-good rocking." Know?

It is easy to be unaware of it.

Blackhearts. Blackheads sounds like they haven't bathed for a while.

I rock all the time. The speed depends on how I'm feeling. I'm real relaxed then it's slow short rocks. I'm always in constant motion.

I also tend to rock to music. I LOVE this! Rocking to the beat, but slowly. Nice, peaceful, slowly! The Bangles - Eternal Flame is the perfect song to rock to! (It's got the right tempo!)

THIS IS SO CALMING!! SO SOOTHING!!

A lot of the time, I don't even realise I'm doing it until I realise I'm doing it (if that makes sense to you)!

:)

Yes, I do. And I need to oil my desk chair.

Hey, there's an idea for a new thread! "Music you like to rock (Gently) to"
