I've been rewatching Parenthood and thinking about how Hank was able to see Max's psychiatrist with so little problem. It doesn't seem realistic since I can't find ANY psychiatrists who specialize in ASD, work with adults, and have an open practice... but then I wonder if California has more ASD specialists? I live in the midwest...

It is tough to find someone that does specialize in adults. I was only able to find one person in my home state. He wasn't an MD, but a PhD. I did see an MD prior to him (a few actually), one of whom was a psychiatrist. But none of them had any experience with ASDs.

You might be better off looking for a counselor that specializes in ASDs. And after meeting with them - they might be able to direct you towards an MD.
