Hi my name is Vicky I was referred to LADS last year and I've just received a letter to say I will be assessed next Thursday. I'm anxious about it but hopefully I may find out some answers. I know there is something wrong with me but what it is.. is the question.

Congratulations! I've been told i'm going to get my assessment too but haven't gotten a date yet. Are you nervous too? I'm just super-nervous but happy to be maybe maybe getting some answers too. I hope things go well for you.

Hi, I go for neuro testing this Wednesday at Beth Israel. What do they do during evaluation?

It's not always exactly the same for everyone, but usually they give you an IQ test, one or more questionnaires, an interview (sometimes with parents or a spouse as well if they come along), and various other neuropsychological tests.

My wife can come along, but Mom is in another state (and doesn't know I suspect AS). Are they likely to really want the parental input? Not sure if i am ready for that confrontation yet. 8O

Well, there are some people on WP who said that their clinician wouldn't assess or diagnose them without information from childhood; on the other hand, some doctors never ask for that at all. If they want you to bring someone along, they will tell you before your first appointment.

YIKES. How do i bring up this with her? I am not sure if she will go with supportiveness, anger, denial, not wanting to participate, who the heck knows. Of all the people on earth, I can predict her reactions the least.

I don't know. I tried to explain Asperger's to my mom and I don't think she even understood it after I explained.

I wouldn't worry about it unless the doctor has asked to talk to a parent. If they need information about your childhood, school records, pediatric medical records, baby books and/or home videos might be enough. Talking to another relative or just your wife might be enough. They might agree to do the evaluation without that information. There are a few different options.

They wanted family members for my assessment but didn't object when I refused.
