Can anyone else "see the strings"?

Hey, guys, I'm new to Wrong Planet. I'm not really sure how old I am. I mean, my birth certificate says '97, but it was issued in '03, [so it's most definitely a conspiracy.] (those are sarcasm brackets; I find them quite useful.) Anyway, I was thinking today, and I notice patterns a lot, naturally, but I feel like I kind of do more than just notice the patterns, I kind of "see the strings." I don't really know how to explain it, to be honest. I just know that I feel like I see more than other people, but then again, I've never met another Aspie, so I was wondering if it's normal amongst Aspies to be very observant of, well, everything, and to be able to tell how things work easily, or if I'm really weird.

Not every Aspie is as quick on the uptake of patterns, connections, systems, processes, mechanics etc.. but it IS a relatively common Aspie trait. I'm like this with a lot of things & can definitely relate to what you're trying to say.

I don't know if it's exclusive to people with Autism, but anyone who is "outside" the social norms (the "outsiders," so to speak) are in a better position to objectively see what goes on that most "insiders" never notice.

I'm very strongly visual-spatial oriented - and have very good pattern recognition skills as well.

I can spot patterns well, similarities with words, as well as many other things. Posts on forums, member posting patterns, subjects, etc. .

I can definitely relate to this. I think it might be tied in with our sensory sensitivities making it seem as though we take in more information than NTs. Combine that with the pattern recognition that some of us have great skill with, and you have a chance to see things a lot more clearly than most. Eventually, you can apply these patterns and systems to explain a lot of what is going on around you in a logical sense where you can "see the strings," as you say.

I feel like my ability to see and understand systems and how things work gives me an edge on a lot of people who just react rather than predict. I seem to be ahead of the curve when encountering new stuff and am quick to pick up on things, especially causal situations. It's mostly just figuring out how to work (or game) the system and get the optimal outcome... the frustration lies in the fact that few people can also see these things and eventually I'm stuck waiting for everyone else to either gum up the system or figure it out on their own. Extremely frustrating when it comes so naturally to me that I assume everyone else sees it, too.
