I find that certain words and phrases, as spoken by other people, trigger a meltdown. Wondering if this is true for any of y'all.

Maybe in the past when I Was younger but I don't let other people affect me anymore. What types of words do you mean?

LOL "trigger word"

didn't know anyone used that phrase outside of tumblr

fake edit: certain tones of voice set in me on edge in certain situations. I don't flip out or anything, but it does stress me out more than I think it should. no words, though

I find overall negative words like "useless" or "unrealistic" to be trigger words. I do see it a lot on tumblr but I used the phrase before I even knew it was on there.

on tumblr they throw around the term "trigger warning" a lot in social justice circles for certain words/phrases/concepts that might "trigger PTSD". . .or something like that.

hilariously, their liberal usage of the term is degrading to actual PTSD sufferers. gotta love tumblr.

I go ballistic every time I hear the phrase "manifest abundance." It hurts my fingernails just to type it.

I also hate hearing anything where people claim that if you visualize something, it will happen. People are weird. They actually believe this stuff, despite having lived in reality for their whole lives.

Also, the phrase "If you say so." I could hit something. Not really. But really. I'm not violent. I just wish I was when I hear this.

A friend of mine has a bad reaction to the word "moist." I don't know why. She won't speak of it. It's her own personal Voldimort.

I have NEVER heard nor seen anyone use the phrase "manifest abundance"!

Its a perfectly serviceable phrase, but for some reason I never hear folks use it (never heard it uttered in RL, and this is the first time I have seen it in print).

The only two places I ever hear the word "manifest" is in the phrase "ship's manifest", and in the phrase "manifest destiny".

Where are you from? And in what situations do you hear folks say "manifest abundance" ( I assume to mean "the obvious fact that there is a lot of the thing being talked about")? Do folks use it to argue with you?

I never had trigger words but I did have meltdowns when my parents were fussing at me saying negative stuff about me.

I had when I was younger. Even written ones, I kept smearing it off.

.. Words: "discipline", anything that involves "No" without a reason, "crazy/insane/weirdo", "BE social", and some tagalog words that roughly translates to "cooperate", "inclusion"... That's all I remember. I no longer do after quite sometime. Now, I don't have any triggering words.

My parents never knew this. No one ever knew this.

I can start to lose my mind when someone says "fraction" as if it means a small amount. Nothing actually wrong with the word, just when people leave it undefined.

For instance, "Hey man, is there any cake left?"

"Yeah but only like a fraction."

Ninety-four ninety-fifths is a fraction, and that would be a damn near full cake if you ask me.

I'm from Jersey, so we aren't going to be able to blame it on location. :)

I run in hippie circles. Its been the fashion for many years now to believe that we attract into our lives certain physical gifts and challenges, based on how we think or the words that we use. People who believe this will try to "manifest" money if they run out of cash by thinking that they already have it. The word abundance also makes the rounds, as in, there's an abundance of _______ out there, why shouldn't I have it? So "manifest abundance" means that I get what ever I want, because I'm thinking the right thoughts.

Usually, they are not manifesting basic needs like healthy food or a chance to learn how to read. Usually, they focus in on the things they want, like new cars, expensive workshop opportunities, and bizzarely enough - parking spaces. I've gotten in fights because people insist that they are able to manifest things into reality using their brains, and that this is so because they are able to create a parking space when they need it. If their brains are so powerful, I can't imagine why they don't end AIDS or climate change. The real blank-ity-blanks I've met claim that they do control things like cancer and if only people would stop believing in cancer, they wouldn't get it. On my way to the airport last week, I told a companion that I was nervous I was going to be stuck on the plane between two people who would not respect my need for space. He told me that I was manifesting this reality. I told him he was exibiting american narcissism and that our brains do not control the actions of other people. Some of these manifesting believer people convinced me to declare that I'm completely neurotypical and burn all of my documentation from childhood. I sent it down the river. literally. Then they almost kicked me out of school because I didn't "create a good rapport with my patients." Not supposed to swear here, so you'll have to imagine what I said to that. (Threatened to sue. Was allowed to graduate, BTW.)

OMG, I could go on and on. Triggered.

The only word that has ever really bothered me is "ret*d" i wouldn't say it causes a meltdown but it does sometimes make me a little angry even if it is just being used jokingly.
