Hey, I'm new to this site and I wanted to ask, has anyone ever started off a conversation with other people but their minds get tired of trying to keep up and then wander, and when they finally come back to the conversation, they have no idea what the others are talking about? Because this happens to me, a lot. I start talking but then I get tired from trying to follow what other people are saying, and when they ask me a question, I have no idea what to say. What do you think? Has this ever happened to you?

This happens to me all the time. I get onto a thought and drift off completely and don't hear what anyone is saying. I've tried to keep that from happening to no avail. It's like my thoughts are just as vivid as, if not more vivid than, the external conversation.

It happens to me a lot, especially with people who tend to switch topics rapidly. I can't keep up.

Story of my Aspie husband's life.

If the conversation is anything else than he's special interests, he struggles.
A special interest let's him dominate a conversation, so he can stay on point

So either he does an oversharing Aspie monolog or his lasts about 10 minutes trying to keep up.

Yes, this is common for me too.

Best thing to do in these situations is to try to follow the conversation until you've caught up, or tell them "hey sorry I got distracted, what were you saying?"

This happens to me sometimes but not a lot. It's probably due to my ADD & dyslexia.

Yup. It happens to me a lot. Eventually, I stop trying to keep up.
