My birthday is in august and for some reason it changed my age from 16 to 17.

Brilliant. We are an epidemic and a disaster worse than AIDS (which kills people), diabetes (which kills people) and cancer (which kills people). Oh yes, and our disease is caused by vaccines and the environment. God, how did the people in this video get their freaking doctorate degrees?

I already know about this documentary. It was a documentary created and funded by Autism Speaks and there was controversy about it a few years ago because of the way it categorised autism as an epidemic and a disease.

It also has information about which states have medical insurance that covers the cost of ABA and therapies and those who don't. 32/50 cover as of the creation of this film.

There is also a man who runs a car wash and 85% of his employees have autism and he and his customers really like them and think they work so hard, and he created it because his son has autism and he was worried about his son's future so he made his own business to help his son and people like his son work and their business is now profitable which is really cool

You'll probably hear all the negative stuff in there from other people because autism speaks made it and people here hate autism speaks. It does call autism an epidemic and have information of the cost to the economy and stuff.

It also has that 49% of people autism have wondered away from safety. Of those who die from that, 90% of the deaths are related to large bodies of water. It doesn't say the amount who die from wondering off or the percentage of total deaths that are from wondering. That part is sad

It shows all the countries that have lit their famous monuments blue on autism awareness day, some look so cool

There is also information on looking for the causes for autism. They found that 12% of mothers with an autistic child have this certain antibody or something and they injected it into pregnant apes and saw autistic-like behaviour in their ape babies.

Also that there is no office of autism so nothing to decide how to distribute funding to new breakthroughs in causes.

They also show that people with high functioning autism are slipping through the net and all support stops when they turn 22, whereas lower functioning get it for their life.

And that waiting times for ABA are 6 months from diagnosis and waiting times for group homes are years.

It has several different families. One has 5 year old twins, one has a 14 year old, another an 11 year old, one a 4 year old, one a 21 year old who also has severe OCD on top of his autism, one with Down syndrome and autism but I don't know how old he was. There was a 3 year old who got diagnosed while filming.

I wonder if there is ?some confusion between the "Sounding the Alarm" propaganda piece (I refuse to dignify it as a 'documentary') and the earlier hate propaganda video called "I am Autism", both of which were financed by Autism Speaks.

This is the script of "I Am Autism", for those who are still not aware of it. We have discussed this before on WP and some people took the view that because it was made some time ago, it was old hat now/no longer mattered. To me, time does not lessen the offence nor make the message less hateful. Yes, they stopped openly promoting it, but it still runs on Youtube, and is still causing offence and spreading hatred; but it does show more clearly what Autism Speaks is really about..

My age is put a year younger.

Of course the title of the video is just plain wrong, I'm pretty sure it was used mainly for the "shock value" though. The many offensive terms they use in the video shows me why they are not viewed so well within the autistic community. They do seem to have good intentions but their attitude towards autism is quite disturbing for people who have autistic relatives. It's sad and doesn't make much sense... I think my logic circuits are now fried after watching that video.
