I'm sorry Nomaken, I never thought I'd be the sort of person who would whinge about this sort of thing but it's really giving me the s**ts. If someone whinges about my old avatar being freaky, which was a harmless pic then that one...

I mean, on a site that filters out the word damn, I think it's rather ironic a graphically gross pic is accepted... and it's not just like one post, it's in an avatar so I see it every post.

It's not so much the avatar that I'm worried about as much as the double standards on the site. If it was on a site that didn't have very much censorship rules it would be appropriate, but if the word damn is inappropriate- a word that is considered trivial and is just a petty word, then a graphic animation of a face splitting open and covering someone definitely is.

That avatar is gross, yet so hard not to look at...

i have to agree with thatrsdude, as the avatar does rather perturb me (i've said this before, somewhere...). not for any reasons of censorship, just because i, personally, find it a bit disturbing.

I can't look at it. Sadly, that means I usually skip Nomaken's posts and scroll past so I don't have to see it. :(

I thought it was a great avatar. I saved it to disk.

Some other people think so as well: http://wrongplanet.net/modules.php?name ... pic&t=3497

It is a matter of personal taste. For example, I don't mind your DD44 Dostovei vs barney avatar, but some people might.

It's not the personal taste issue, it's a matter of appropriateness for a site taht says it's suitable for children. That pic isn't just gross as far as personal taste goes, it's too graphic as far as the standards on other things go.

It's just that under you logic, anyone should be allowed to post whatever swearing they like because it's a matter of personal taste, which wouldn't bother me, but it's not the opinion of this site.

I'm not just talking about something that people don't personally like, I wouldn't criticize people for an avatar just because I don't like it, but unlike, say my old avatar, it actually contains graphic content, unlike mine which was an innocent picture of a soldier which someone didn't like.

Umm...and your avatar is suitable for children? No offense, but you're being a hypocrite. Some guy shooting Barney is your avatar, and Nomaken's is someone eating someone. In my mind they're equally distasteful, but I have yet to here any parents demand either one to be removed. If you don't like it, block the image.

How do I do this? I feel like I'm missing important information by scrolling past Nomaken's posts just so I can avoid seeing that avatar...
Everyone's posts are important!

It's a Firefox option, maybe IE too (don't know). Right click an image, click "Copy Image Location". Then go to "Tools", then "Options". Then go to Web Features. One of the features is load images, click on Exceptions and paste the image location you copied earlier.

:P I just don't want to have a bunch of people arguing about something that I thought was settled when Nomaken joined. This issue has been discussed before, which is probably why few peole have responded.

I was expecting someone to say this. It's just someone pointing a gun at a dinosaur, it's not gruesome in anyway. Cartoon violence is always trivial compared to real violence, it's just that I thought Nomaken's went too far. I deliberately picked that one and not another one which had his head being blown off, and even though I didn't have a problem with that, I picked this one instead just to be safe.

I actually like the avatar, but I don't like to look at it all the time.

But it's no big deal, I've made my point, if you want to keep it I don't really care. As I said, I'm not normally the person to complain about these types of things so...

BTW I wasn't here at ther time of the original argument. Sorry ,Nomaken. Maybe we can lock this topic now.

I don't think Nomaken ever looked at this topic, there's no replies by him.

It kinda freaked/entertained me at first. Now I've become accustomed to it and I think nothing of it anymore.
