Do others here have what they feel is a whole nother world or universe inside thier mind? I have one that incorperates my model railway thats out in my garden. Its a safe place I can go to when stressed or overloaded, giving me the time I need to find myself again and come back to the real world. My world is set in the Harz region of German, a heavily forested area that was along the East/West German border prior to reunification. The railway still uses steam locomotives in daily use this very day. I modeled my garden railway after this area and its beauty. The fact that maybe someday I could really visit this area of the globe gives me hope. I can view the real area via the railways live webcam's My favorite model train company, LGB, makes many models of the Harz Railway or HSB's equipment. When I go to my inner world, I am in the engineers seat of one of those large steam locomotives. Its a peaceful place, with the smells that come with being around a steam locomotive, the damp smell of the steam, the grease, the coal smoke and its very relaxing for me. Here is a couple pics of my garden railway, I also have a loop of this track overhead in my living room for the winter months when I want to run a train. Our winters can be quite harsh, and I do not do cold weather very well. So I have get to my safe place somehow during the long winter days. Mike aka Dodger.

I heard about this guy on NPR who created this fantasy world for himself where he was a famous musician up to the point of creating album covers for his fictional records and reviews of them. I though that sounded interesting and started creating my own alternative world that I've fleshed out pretty extensively over the last few years, but it's starting to take up too much of my attention.

I love the rail road you have! There have been times where I have been to involved in an obsession that it seems like I am living that alternate reality. Like if my obsession is about writing or being a writer, even though I may not write a thing I will still believe that I am a writer. This has happened a lot over the years... I've never created a fantasy world though. Maybe I should give it a shot. When I was a kid I would draw maps of these "worlds" and a friend of mine and I would pretend to go through them and find treasure/kill monsters/etc. etc. It was fun!!

You sound like you have a good imagination. I don't really have a good imagination, and I dont usually daydream unless it's just about something that could have happened in the past or could happen in the future. But sometimes in order to relax I will listen to an album, close my eyes and make up a movie in my mind. Maybe that is the same thing as having a fantasy world
