im not really sure we are up for meeting people off the internet but it would be great to meet other aspies.....perhaps will try the support group someone mentioned on her....

very interested to find out stories of how to get a diagnosis....it appears that GPs know nothing about Aspergers so we may have to go private....

any recommendations would help lots.....

Hi,

It would be great to meet at the DANDA event - I'm a big fan of the DANDA website. Don't think I can make this month as I have a voluntary work committment, but might make the June event.

gez: If you are interested in the private option, I know there is a Dr. Amita Shah who provides private diagnosis, and you can also try the autism research centre in Cambridge. I believe both require a GP or psych referral though and I think (though not 100% sure) need a parent to come, or someone else who can talk about your behaviour as a very young child.

Try the PARIS link on www.nas.org.uk as they have a list of medical professionals qualified to diagnose AS, and you can search by the area / region of the UK in which you live.

Maybe see you at a DANDA event sometime.

Hi All

the next DANDA London social group meeting is this coming Tuesday, 22nd May. I hope to attend.

It's 9 months since my diagnosis and I've gone through many changes - odd, self-contained, misunderstood, unique - to, well, one of many disparate creatures with much in common, jealous then accepting.

My therapist wanted to send me to a social group to "learn" the rules, but we soon realised that it wouldn't work (I'd still be an uncommunicative wallflower); meeting fellow Aspies and similar is much better - we have so much in our nature that we can relate to (i.e. if I suddenly walk out of the room after two bars of a pop song I cannot cope with and return 20 mins later - and continue the conversation from the point at whicjh I left it, with luck no-one would say anything derogatory, whereas with NTs I know all I'd get is the "weirdo" look and general embarrassment and end of conversation).

Cripes, I hope I'm not putting you all off .

Michaelmas

I could go down to London during the day at wekeends - not this weekend but normally I'm free. I'd be up for coffee, lucnh, a drink at the pub or going to a museum.

Not a brit(I'm a Canadian) but family is from there(father was born there along with his family and my moms mom). Anyways does ESPA have anything to do with that? I know they do some educational stuff if you go to say Westfall. I have two ex's which were from the UK.

Is there a "Meetup" website for the UK? If so you might wish to try that. The ex's I had were at Westfall ages ago so knew others on the spectrum from there only or from online irc groups for ac's.

I'm not meeting up anyone until I'm out of school. Or maybe this summer. But I would have to bring a friend or two.

Well 9catmum - if you are in town on the 4th Tuesday of the month, and would like to meet some fellows, look us up.

That is, if the Olympics doesn't take up all your time (which I would understand if it did).

Myself and a group of easy going aspies meet every so often in a wetherspoons pub in Farringdon. The beer is cheap and there is space. Next on in a couple of weeks

PM for info.

I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but wasn't then up to it.

I've now finally got my act together and shall be attending the Danda social this evening - it is for all with neuro diverse capabilities, and is run by people on the Autistic Spectrum/other related spectra; I'm a little apprehensive of course.

P S If anyone is interested please PM me and I'll report back

There's so much berating going on about that right now on LBC radio.
Interesting piece of knowledge that I realised today (rather slow of me, because I've been listening to LBC for years): LBC stands for London's Biggest Conversation. Well, in a way, it is, because anyone can call up.
