They are complete idiots who don't know basic math. If you have 4 eyes and 2 lenses count as eyes they should have called you 6 eyes, it's additive not multiplicative.

They could have called you Spiderman, as many spideys have eight eyes.

I'm short-sighted, and I've had glasses since I was ten.

I attend a popular social group for people on the spectrum, and I'd say that around half of the service users wear glasses.

I have been wearing glasses since I was about three and a half years old. I have a lazy eye and bad astigmatism.

I've been wearing glasses since I was about 10 or 11. My eyesight isn't too terrible though, so they're mostly reading glasses. I just wear them 24/7 because if I didn't, I'd forget to put them on when I needed them, and they'd be pointless. Because I can still see fairly well, I sometimes switch my glasses out with non-prescription lightly tinted ones, which help alleviate the sensory overload I get when exposed to fluorescent lights for long periods.

Age 7 or 8 I had to start wearing glasses as I couldnt see the blackboard in class. I wear contact lenses about 65% of the time, glasses the rest. If I am doing something special or meeting somebody who I consider important, like my mum, or an interviewer, I will wear my contact lenses as I hate what I look like wearing my glasses and it plays on my mind that I look like a mole.

I was misdiagnosed with astigmatism at age 10. Because during that time, my complaint isn't about my eye sight, it's the eye itself having random sharp pains (Even until now, it still happens in rare occasion for unknown reasons). And, I wasn't paying attention during the test.

Then, diagnosed with nearsightedness at 15. Mainly because my eyes are close up on the monitor for 12 hours a day, for the last 18 months straight.

I only wear my glasses when I needed it. I'm not used of wearing glasses for straight 3 hours without getting any discomfort. Nearsightedness doesn't bother me in general... For now.

Yes. I am short-sighted and I think I have astigmatism too. I should have been wearing glasses from about the age of 11 - I didn't want yet another thing that would make me a target - but didn't until I started to drive and realised vanity would be a pretty stupid reason to have an accident. My eyesight grew steadily worse until about three or four years ago when it finally began to settle down. I've been able to keep the same prescription since then, although I have had to add reading glasses to my collection of visual corrective aids.

I don't think needing to wear glasses is particularly prevalent in autistic people though. Short-sightedness is a very common condition.

Or rather, I would like to consider contacts, but I don't know if I can put up with them.

That is an interesting question. I have always had a lot of trouble finding glasses that suit my face, which is quite narrow, so I tried contacts. Twice. Both times I ended up tossing them. I couldn't stand the things. The second time around I really tried, wearing them every day for four weeks, and had to give up. I got peculiar headaches, sore, dry eyes and was always conscious I was wearing them. And putting them in and taking them out was always unpleasant because I hate things near my eyes. To cap it all off they were messy and awkward to look after, both things I dislike. I wonder if my experience was simply unique to me or if other spectrumites have had similar problems.

Wearing glasses has nothing to do with Asperger's

I don't know too many people who have 20/20 vision. Most PEOPLE seem to wear either contacts or glasses, especially after the age of 40.

The vast majority of children, on the other hand, under the age of 5 do not wear glasses; it's rare to find a toddler in a stroller wearing glasses.

I would say many kids, when they are around 12, start wearing glasses.

Yep. I started wearing glasses when I was five months old. I'm farsighted and have had two eye muscle surgeries.
