If you come to my home without calling first or being invited, I will not answer the door for you, even if you sit on the floor outside my door waiting.

How do you cope with the banging on the door?

After ignoring someone knocking for 10 minutes it gets too much and I end up letting them in.

I end up hiding somewhere in the house, unless there are people in the house with me then I have no choice but to answer the door or phone.

Do you have any kids? I'm only asking, because my siblings and I were mildly traumatized by our (Schizo/Aspie/Hypochondriac/you-name-it) mother's reaction to the knocks on our door. She would have us hiding, as if our lives depended on it. My heart would be pounding out of my chest, until the person went away. I still have that moment of sheer panic when I hear my own doorbell. I don't want to do that to my kids, so I usually try to answer the door, as much as possible. If I'm completely unable to do it, I just talk to the person through the door and tell them that I can't come to the door. If the dreaded mother-in-law stops by without calling, then all bets are off.

Nope I don't have any kids but I live at home as my mothers carer, with my 13 year old brother and 22 year old sister. My I dunno what it is, social anxiety I suppose, only takes over when I'm alone. If people are here then I would be too embarrassed to hide or ignore the phone so have to see who it is.

Wow, you would all hate coming over here right now! We're getting our basement finished and there's people constantly coming in and out typically in big groups. Oh, and don't even get me started on the noise! Did I mention they're also building a house right next door to us, too, right now? Yeah, you gotta love construction... I've actually gotten really used to it since my last neighborhood was also a newer one, too. I can actually sleep through the construction now (well, though a certain extent!).

Rules? believe it or not there are rules, even in a house. My home is what some call "organized disorder". But there are still rules.

1. Flush the toilet!! !! ! every time it is used.
2. Do not hit my birds (used to have an abusive boyfriend who liked to hit the cages).
3. keep the shower curtain closed. It needs to be spread so the mildew won't grow in the folds.
4. NO TOUCHING MY OLDSMOBILE unless I'm there in the garage. Violations of this rule will result in broken fingers. NO EXCEPTIONS!
5. Separate the laundry. I don't want my white shirts to turn pink due to being mixed with the red shirts.
6. If a door is closed, knock before entering and announce yourself. I don't like being startled or walked in on.
7. Any cigarettes left out where I can see them risk being thrown out. I don't like them.
8. Anyone who must smoke must do so outside on the porch. Even if it's 30 degrees, snowing or windy. The door to the inside must be shut as well to prevent contamination from the smoke.
9. Clean up spills. I understand spills happen. Just clean it up if it occurs.
These are the big ones. I can't think of any others at this time but this list is amendable and may change (grow) on an as- needed basis.

I started doing this after the bathroom had been re-done with new tile and a new tub. Mildew quickly started forming on the new tile. I realized that keeping the curtain closed when not in use was a very bad idea.

Children without rules will soon become foster children.

That must be annoying.
At a house i lived last year the neighbors next door were totally rebuilding the inside of the house it seems.
Every day youd constantly hear loud bangs.
Sometimes even so loud you could practicly not hear anything else anymore.
Glad i'm not living there enymore.
