You;d think in such a busy, fast and efficient world today, people would have learned to have walked a decent speed by now.

Well, I can also relate in that I walk fast. I used to be patient when walking behind slow other walkers, but have overtime realized just how selfish it is for them to do that, and now don't give a sh*t if people are walking slowly in front of me.

I also make a 'game' out of it like a few others here do - I challenge myself by attempting to always slide through or walk around people.

But if I can't do that, these days I will quite literally barge into people gently. I won't knock people down or hurt them, but if at school there is an all-school meeting and about 100 kids all try to squeeze through a doorway, I won't be afraid to aggressively push myself through instead of being a push-over. There's no other way sometimes in these situations.

I can't understand how most people can't be aware of how slow they are walking, so I assume that they are aware. Honestly, how could you not be? This is how I justify any unkind actions I do to slow walkers - they should be aware.

My family is full of fast walkers as well, so it mmight not even be an aspie limited thing. Though my aspie uncle is a fast walker like me, my other uncle who is non aspie but still has a mental disability also walks fast.

Just recently we were at a large family oriented event and at the end the streets were filled with large crowds of people. My uncle and I slided through so many people. They were all too slow for us. We walked an entire block full of people in a matter of seconds and would have passed at least 300 people or so. It's just plain sad.

At school I would speed walk my way through hundreds of kids to parade. Actually hundreds.

This is actually one good thing I'd think about being an adult - less slow walkers, because business men and women actually care about their walking speed and how fast they want to get to their destination.

I got a new question:

Anyone else find they are always very 'active' and seem 'on the go'? For example I also fast walk up escalators instead of just standing on them, I often do parkour jumps and tricks for shortcuts of the heck of it, I beat elevators sometimes by taking the stairs, I double or triple skip when walking up/down stairs and will even jump to skip 3 or 4 steps, I jog when crossing the streets every time, especailly if there is a car, I jog to and from classes at school, etetc I have been called active and even 'athletic' by some.

I prefer to walk at a steady, almost slow pace when I'm alone and not surrounding by people but when I am in a busy environment with lots of others I speed up a lot.

I will always overtake, I weave in and out of people, I bounce on my feet impatiently sighing and grumbling when I'm stuck behind someone I can't overtake. I even do this with my children in tow - I almost drag them so they have learnt that mummy walks fast to get out of the school gates and rush too but once I am clear of the crowds I slow back down and in fact end up trailing behind my kids on the way home. If we get near any cluster of kids or parents on our route I speed back up again to overtake. I can't bear walking near people.

Yeah, I like to do a lot of parkour activities. For example me and my friends go to this wall at night on our campus sometimes and pull each other up it. I do "raptor" run up stairs sometimes when no one is around.

yes.
perpetually fast, idfk why. I just need to walk fast. I don't get stuck behind slow walkers because I find a way around them even if I have to squeeze through uncomfortably.

it was always helpful when I was in public school skipping class or doing something I wasn't supposed to because I looked like I was going somewhere important and had a legitimate purpose for walking through the halls and leaving the building

Yes, everyone says that I walk too quickly. I think it is a waste of time to be slow.

Count me in as another Aspie fast walker. I have rather short legs (~26" inseam), but I walk faster than almost anyone I know, including indoors - at home, at work, at the grocery store, etc. I get exasperated walking behind people who seem to walk unnecessarily slow, especially when they walk right in the middle of a corridor where I can't easily get around them. That actually happened at work today, and I was screaming inside my head for them to move out of my way. (It didn't work.)

I've noticed other people seem to find my behavior rude, as I've heard occasional comments from people I pass. I'm careful to avoid bumping into anyone, but I'll zip around other people whenever possible.

Hey now! I'm one of those "fat slobs," and I probably walk at LEAST as fast as you do. :D

I build up a lot of momentum walking so if someone steps out in front of me it's physically hard to slow down. If I have to walk slowly, I wobble and lose my balance a lot more.

I know what you mean about building up momentum. Once I get a full head of steam going, I hate having to slow down. I don't have any serious balance issues, but it does throw me off.

Me too fast. When I was a young kid since I never learned to ride a bike I walked ALOT. Miles a day most days. To pass the time I'd try to step on every seam in the pavement with one step in between so either my left or right foot would always hit the crack. I did this for years which trained me to walk very fast and have unusually long strides- I've been told I walk like a sasquatch.

Haha I actually only realized recently that I do this. I believe both my parents are on the spectrum and on my wedding day my dad practically ran me down the aisle! I didn't think much of it at the time but later that day when my sister was holding my dress up as we walked to the photography location, I heard my other sister say "Yes InquisitiveCat01 is a speed walker just like dad." A few months later I was showing someone something at work and they mentioned that I walked very fast! So yes, I walk fast.

When shopping I have a specific purpose so I'm in and out - no stuffing about. Even when I'm window shopping I'm faster than others. I dart past people and walk very fast. I hate slow people - turns out they're not slow I'm just very fast!

No parkour here though :)

I have walked fast my whole life. It is efficient and good for your body to walk fast and your heart rate especially.

if I am alone or with some people who can walk fast I will walk fast. If with a large group of people I walk their speed and hang out. BUt I do not hang out much or have any friends really but in the past on occassion with some group or whatever.

Also if you have ajob where you have to get some place by walking it is more efficient for work and you will produce more by walking fast. I used to work at the mall at a kiosk and my boss was on the other end of the mall at another kiosk. I would have to walk from my area to his to drop off money or get more merchandize or the keys etc. I would walk really fast around people. One time a guy made fun of me for walking fast but I didnt care.

If I am taking the trash out I walk fast bc I dont want to be out there it is boring. I want to get back to what I was doing as fast as I can.

Also I DO NOT pace frantically or weird in my own house or act crazy walking back and fourth pacing around. I only do it when I am out walking for a purpose to get somewhere.

But if I am generally bored or have NOTHING to do I will slow up and walk slow and use time to think about whatever. And if I am with a girl I would walk slow with her so I can talk.
