Do You Have Asperger's? Take the Online Quiz
There are a few members here who are both autistic and schizophrenic so they can and do occur together but I have no idea how common that is. I really don't know very much about schizophrenia, but there seems to be very key differences. Autism (including Asperger's) starts in the early developmental period and is usually visible by age 3, though not always diagnosed. Schizophrenia is more likely to start when someone is a young adult. Autistics aren't detached from reality and don't go into psychosis, and I think both of which happen in schizophrenia but I could be wrong. There's medication for schizophrenia (though it doesn't work on every person) but there's no medication for autism itself at the moment. But they do have their similarities so people on the schizophrenia spectrum (this includes things like schizotypal personality disorder) may have a lot of traits for Asperger's. Anyone more knowledgeable please correct anything I got wrong, I don't know anyone with schizophrenia and have only seen a documentary and a few webpages about it so this may be outdated or flat out wrong.

Don't need to - I've been diagnosed by two different psychiatrists - years apart - the latter didn't even know about the first time I was picked up (by accident).
I was being seen for depression and I got 'discovered' in 2007.
After I found out it was a form of Autism, I got angry, refused to believe it and forgot all about it washing that psychiatrist off as a loony!
Then, in 2013, (after I'd forgotten all about the previous diagnosis), I was in St. John of God hospital (again for depression) and my psychiatrist (and good friend) also diagnosed me with Aspergers. He knows me as well as I know myself. I opened up to him straight away and was very comfortable with him after being in the psych hospital for over 2 months. He was my psych some time before that too.
I saw him 2 to 3 times a week for months and when HE said I've got Aspergers, there was no denying it.
Especially since he didn't even know about the previous loony's diagnosis. Perhaps in hindsight, he wasn't a loony but knew what he was talking about - I mean, you don't get to operate out of Elizabeth Street (opposite Hyde Park) if you're a loony. He must have known what he was talking about..
I just never thought I was Autistic.
I mean, I've always known I was different but I always thought I was from outer space! Not Autistic!
As for the test?! Yes, I've taken it several times and the results always come back the same. I'm an Aspie. Hence the nickname!
See my signature for score results (different test - same results)!
