01.) You have inflexible routines

Girl: “Let’s go watch a movie tonight.”

Guy: “I can’t, I have to play hockey.”

Girl: “You play hockey every Friday night. Why can’t you change your routine?”

Guy: “Good habits are important. Do you know what happens if I skip hockey to watch a movie tonight? Next week, I’ll skip hockey because you want to go shopping. The week after that, I’ll have to skip hockey because you want to paint pottery. After years of no exercise, I’ll die early and overweight. Is that what you want?”

Girl: “Oh my god, you’re crazy.”

02.) You have trouble displaying emotion

[Emotion #1: happy]

Girl: “Oh my god, you just won the lotto. Why don’t you look happy?”

Guy: “I am happy. I can pay off my mortgage faster. Look, I’m smiling. Doesn’t that mean I’m happy?”

[Emotion #2: sad]

Girl: “I’m sorry to hear that Calgary lost to Toronto. Are you okay?”

Guy: “I’m sad. Look, I’m not smiling. Doesn’t that prove I’m sad?”

[Emotion #3: angry]

Girl: “I’m so sorry that I broke your Batman DVD.”

Guy: “I’m angry. Do I need to snap one of your shoes in half to prove that I’m upset?”

03.) You have trouble figuring what is appropriate in social situations

Guy: [Gives flimsy hug]

Girl: “Why is your hug so weak? Are you afraid of women?”

Guy: [Gives firm hug]

Girl: “Why are you squeezing me so tightly? Stop choking me, you weirdo!”

04.) You lack empathy

Girl: [Crying]

Guy: “What’s wrong?”

Girl: “My boyfriend just dumped me.”

Guy: “Would you like a Kleenex?”

Girl: “What’s wrong with you? Haven’t you ever loved someone for years, then watched them walk away and then rip out your heart? Why can’t you show any emotion?”

Guy: “But I’m having a good day. The Calgary Flames won the hockey game. Why do I have to pretend that I’m sad just to make you feel better?”

05.) You know way too much information about a single topic

Girl: “What’s the name of the girl who plays Daenerys on Game of Thrones?”

Guy: “Emilia Clarke.”

Girl: “How old is she?”

Guy: “She’s 28, born on May 1st, 1987.”

Girl: “Who is she going out with?”

Guy: “She broke up with Seth MacFarlane in March 2013.”

Girl: “Why do you know this stuff?

Yeah. Except the lack of empathy thing. Getting pretty sick of seeing that so many times on this forum.

#1 vaguely applies to me but I don't have a set daily routine....I will however develop routines in my daily activities and can notice some difficulty when something changes a routine I've got myself set on. Or like if I plan out a day and it drastically changes it can be hard to deal with. But I don't have any ongoing specific daily routines....doubt I have the focus to stick to such an elaborate concrete routine.

#2 makes sense it can be hard to express feelings/emotions normally, doesn't mean they aren't there though...just hard to communicate it.

#3 trouble figuring out what is appropriate in social situations can certainly be rather tricky....a lot of times I do a lot of observing around new people initially to kind of determine all that before I interact a whole lot.

#4 is kind of a rather inaccurate stereotype actually....as with #2 it can be more difficulty expressing/communicating said empathy but its not particularly non-existant.

#5 fits me fairly well I certainly am an information sponge with various topics I am interested in.

1 & 5 don't fit me.
1 because I don't have routines other than "stay at home and avoid real life for most of the day". I dislike unpredictability though.
5 because, well, I don't have particular interests and my memory is kinda bad. Although I could talk about things in-depth for which I'd get weird looks. But I've learned not to do that.
In school I've always wanted to know every detail about interesting topics, but teachers didn't like that lol.

I've become a lot more laid-back in may ways over the years.

LOL, yup that's me except I want to see the Calgary Flames lose being a fan of the arch rivals and I do feel bad when someone is upset, just not for the "NT" reasons. Number 1 sounds word for word what I would say to my non-existent Girlfriend throughout my 20s: I literally played hockey every single Friday night for the entire decade from September to the end of March.

You have an eccentric nature.

You prefer being alone over interacting with others.

NTs force you to be social when you don't want to.

NTs take emotional, psychological, or mental advantage of you because they think of you as beneath everyone else.

NTs in your family will not accept the fact of you having an ASD.

You avoid eating in a dining room till most of the people have left.

You stay behind to read the credits at the end of a movie even though most folks have left.

You start stimming like crazy when the person who's supposed to meet you at @ 2PM doesn't arrive till 2:05 PM.

You spend all night playing a video game, and not eating, then finally go to bed once the morning birds start chirping.

It takes you a second or two to shop at a supermarket because you hate crowds and all the food you're going to eat that month is in the same section anyway.

You prefer sitting close to the door while watching a movie at your local movie theater.

You sit in the back while riding public transit.

You can relate to fictional characters, but not to people around you.

NTs want you to believe that you are nothing more than a stereotype.

You like to read books set in a dystopic world.

Your shyness is blamed on you or your autism instead of things like bullying and social communication difficulties.

Your diagnoses was eliminated by the DSM

You are assumed to be part of a group that is a ret*d, a burden, a wannabe, special snowflakes and that is somehow part of a massive epidemic and way over diagnosed at the same time.

The biggest charity speaks for your group, helps set national policy for your group without any members of your group on its board and only reacts to what you have to say when a neurotypical author says similar things.

People insist you have no right to have an opinion about how other members of your group are treated because you have the ability to have an opinion and write about it.

People insist you have say you have Aspergers or have Autism instead of you are autistic or Aspie because they insist what you want to call yourself is offensive.

Other Autistics beleive you want to call yourself Aspie because you are ableist against other autistics.

for #5... when the girl asks "why do you know this stuff?" my first thought was... why did you ask all about it when you really didn't care to know?

If you've seen one person with Asperger's, you have NOT seen them all.

I must not be a typical Aspie because I am female, show emotions (sometimes explosively or passionately), am not shy, and do not speak in a monotone voice.

And I suck royally at math.

On the other hand, I was bullied a lot as a teenager for my obsession with Garfield and my always drawing cartoons, preferred practical clothing over the latest fashions, and did not relate well to other girls my age.

I preferred role-playing with stuffed animals or being around real animals than being social with real humans.

I do not like books, movies or video games set in a dystopic world, the real world is dark and depressing enough as it is.

I prefer sitting in the front seat of a bus because the back seat is where all the teenagers and/or people up to no good sit.

Actually I prefer not riding a bus at all, but cannot afford my own car and am very fearful of driving.

I think cartoons from the Golden Age of Animation are superior to Anime or cartoons from any other decade other than the 1920s-40s.

I may actually be hypersensitive to physical pain instead of not sensitive at all. And emotional pain. Oh lord, the emotional pain is the equivalent of having arthritis all over one's body.

I tend to think people say certain things about me because they are criticizing or making fun of me even though they probably aren't. Like if they say how I ate all the food off my plate, does that mean they *want* me to leave food on it, or if they notice I always order the same foods, should I try something different even if I won't enjoy it as much?

Everything I like seems to be wrong or stupid. :(

I must also be the only aspie around here whose parents accept my being autistic and are even proud of me.
