Could relating better with adults than children potentially be indicative of something akin to ASD, or is this also a relatively common feature of neurotypical people?

Welcome!

I notice you have "Potterwho" in your screenname. You've already revealed that you're a Harry Potter fan, but is the "who" from The Who (as in "Talking about my g-g-g-generation") or from Dr. Who?

The 'Who' part is from Doctor Who.

So I'm no longer a 13 year old girl, I'm now a 19 year old guy.

I never did get assessed- and I didn't talk to my parents about it until I was 17.

I had a GP appointment about a referral when I was 18.

I'm now waiting to hear if I'm on the adult waiting list.

While I did not have meltdowns when I was 13 and my life was veery easy, I started having mild shutdown type things when I was 14/15 and I do get meltdowns and sensory overloads now as a university student living in halls.

My university has funding for private autism assessments that I may be able to access so I'm doing to do that as I am unlikely to be assessed in the next 3 years and I need support. Luckily my university accepted my referral letter as proof so I now get autism mentoring.

Sounds like it's taking forever to be assessed... Luckily I didn't have to wait that long for my assessment. I would have exploded.
I really hope you get the diagnosis if you want it. I find it neat that you came back after all these years.
Also, whatever that one dude said about how you are normal, ignore it. Being fascinated with autism is what I consider to be one of my autistic traits. I hope you're able to get the assessment and the answers you've been looking for.

Oh yeah, I've been fascinated by autism for around a decade now! My aim is to work in healthcare for autistic people and possibly do autism research. When I initially posted here, Harry Potter was still my main special interest but that faded when I was around 14 as autism superseded it.

Thanks for the update. Sorry it's been rough. Glad you are continuing in your self-discovery and obtaining resources.

I only have meltdowns when stressed. Sometimes that's hardly ever and sometimes that's frequent.

I find your post timely b/c my 10 year old was not diagnosed with ASD last year b/c she was not stressed enough and/or not displaying her level of stress outwardly. As you have experienced (and I did), I anticipate her stress will increase as life demands increase. Here's hoping we can avert a tsunami.

Wishing you well as you gain more clarity.

I got diagnosed with autism (level 1 support needs, although I don't hold much stock by these levels) this Saturday just gone. Glad to have the label officially now, finally.

You've already been welcomed to WP, but I'll welcome you to the diagnosis! :)

Sometimes I think answering questions like is this asperger's is like taking one of those quizzes and finding out that you're an introvert. Well, I already knew that I prefer reading in my bedroom to going out and partying, but now I have a name for it!

Does it change anything to say that you do--or don't--have asperger's? You will still be you, who sounds like a very nice and interesting person, either way.
